“Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games” (Japanese: 対ありでした。 ~お嬢さまは格闘ゲームなんてしない~, Tai Ari Deshita ~Ojō-sama wa Kakutō Gēmu Nante Shinai~, lit. “Thanks For the Match: Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games”) is a manga series by Eri Ejima. The story revolves around Aya Mitsuki, an ordinary girl who gets into the prestigious Kuromi Girls’ Academy on a scholarship. She admires Mio Yorue, nicknamed “Shirayuri-sama” for her beauty and grace. However, Aya discovers that Shirayuri-sama has a secret: she’s a hardcore gamer with a competitive spirit. Despite a school ban on video games, the girls bond over their shared love of fighting games. The series follows their journey as they navigate school life and the world of competitive gaming.

Seven Seas Entertainment, which licenses the manga in North America, describes the story as an “over-the-top comedy” where delicate young ladies indulge in hardcore gaming. The official English version of the manga highlights the contrast between the refined academy and Shirayui’s “trash-talking, combo-chaining, newbie-stomping, ruthless hardcore gamer” persona.

New Recruits: Cast and Staff Additions

The anime adaptation is directed by Shōta Ihata and produced by Diomedéa. Wataru Watari is handling the scripts, Mayuko Matsumoto is designing the characters, and Kana Hashiguchi is composing the music.

Here are the newly announced cast members:

  • Sayaka Sembongi as Yu Inui, described as a fun-loving mood maker.
  • Shimoji Shino as Tamaki Ichinose, the floor leader in charge of the fourth floor on the dormitory committee. Tamaki is secretly practicing fighting games in her own room because she admires someone.

  • Ikumi Hasegawa (Ikuyo in BOCCHI THE ROCK!) as Aya Mitsuki.

From Manga to Anime: A History of “Tai Ari Deshita.”

The original manga series by Eri Ejima has been serialized in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Flapper magazine since January 2020. Eight tankōbon volumes have been released as of October 2024. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga for North American release.

The series has also been adapted into a live-action web drama, which aired on Lemino from May to July 2023. The live-action series was directed by Ryoma Ouchida and written by Anna Kawahara, starring Mizuki Kayashima as Aya Mitsuki and Ririka Tanabe as Mio Yorue.
