The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani’s psychological thriller manga, “Liar Game,” has unveiled its main cast, additional staff members, and confirmed an April 2026 premiere. The announcements arrived with the release of a new trailer and a key visual for the series, which will be animated by the renowned studio Madhouse.

Main Cast Brings Iconic Characters to Life

The latest reveal highlights the voices behind the manipulative world of the Liar Game. Saya Hitomi has been cast as Nao Kanzaki, the “naive” college freshman who finds herself unwittingly drawn into the high-stakes tournament. Joining her is Takeo Otsuka as Shinichi Akiyama, the brilliant con artist Nao seeks out for help. Both actors have shared their excitement about bringing these complex characters to the screen, with Hitomi expressing her desire to grow alongside Nao’s character and Otsuka conveying his long-standing fondness for the series.

Extensive Staff List Promises High-Quality Production

Leading the creative team for the “Liar Game” anime are Chief Director Yuzo Sato and Director Asami Kawano. Tatsuhiko Urahata is handling both the series composition and screenwriting, ensuring the intricate plot of the manga is faithfully adapted. Character designs are by Kei Tsuchiya, while Kisuke Koizumi is serving as the Sound Director. Yugo Kanno is composing the music, aiming to create a distinct musical world for the anime, separate from previous live-action adaptations.

Additional staff members crucial to the animation’s visual and auditory experience include:

  • Sub Character Design: Ai Yokoyama
  • Color Setting: Terumi Nakauchi
  • Art Board: Hideyuki Ueno
  • Art Setting: Shinji Sugiyama
  • Photograph Direction: Hironobu Hatanaka
  • VFX Supervisor: Michiya Kato
  • Editing: Mariko Tsukatsune
  • Sound Effects: Naoto Yamaya
  • Sound Production: Bit grooove promotion

Animation production will be handled by Madhouse, a studio celebrated for its work on acclaimed titles such as “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” and “Orb: On the Movements of the Earth”.

The Enduring Appeal of “Liar Game” and its Anticipated Anime Debut

Shinobu Kaitani’s original “Liar Game” manga, which explores themes of trust, deception, and human psychology, was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump from 2005 to 2015. The series quickly gained a dedicated following for its intense mind games and strategic battles.

Before this upcoming anime, the manga inspired a successful live-action TV drama in 2007, followed by a second season in 2009-2010. It also spawned two live-action films, “Liar Game: The Final Stage” (2010) and “Liar Game: Reborn” (2012), and a South Korean drama adaptation in 2014. Most recently, a stage play was produced in 2023. This anime marks the first television animation for the series.

Original creator Shinobu Kaitani commented on the timing of the anime adaptation, noting that 20 years after its initial serialization, the themes of trust and distrust in society are more relevant than ever. Chief Director Yuzo Sato also expressed his excitement, having previously worked on Kaitani’s “One Outs,” and hopes to make this adaptation equally enjoyable.

With a strong creative team, an experienced animation studio, and a compelling premise, the “Liar Game” TV anime is set to draw both long-time fans and new viewers into its intricate world of psychological suspense when it premieres in April 2026. Global streaming details are expected to be announced at a later date.
