Story Synopsis: Escaping to the Mountains
Long Story Short, I’m Living in the Mountains follows the story of Sano Shohei, a man fed up with his life in the city. After being left by his fiancée and growing weary of dealing with people, Sano decides to make a drastic change: he buys a mountain and becomes a recluse, seeking solace far from modern society.
A Solitary Life?
However, Sano soon discovers that his solitary life is lonelier than he anticipated. In an attempt to remedy this, he buys three colored chicks from a festival stall.
Unexpected Companions
These are no ordinary chicks as they quickly grow, develop reptilian tails, and even begin to talk. Sano’s new life in the mountains becomes increasingly eventful as he learns to live off the land, gets to know his rural neighbors, and raises his unusual, yet endearing, chickens.
Themes and Reception
The light novel has been described as a “relaxing and very strange mountain life begins!”. It explores themes of escapism, finding peace in nature, and discovering unexpected connections in unconventional circumstances. While reviews of the manga adaptation are limited, the light novel has garnered attention for its unique premise and heartwarming narrative.
