Suzu Akeko’s manga series, “Love Love Shitai Tatsunomiya-san wa Jōriku Shimashita” (Tatsunomiya-san Who Wants to Be Lovey Dovey Has Landed), is set to end with its second compiled volume. The final volume is scheduled to be released on April 24th by Kadokawa. This announcement marks a relatively short run for the series, which began serialization in November 2022.

A Sea Princess’s Land-Based Love

The manga tells the story of Nagisa Nii, a kind college student, and Otohime, an undersea princess. The narrative begins when Nagisa rescues a stranded turtle, leading her to the Ryūgū castle as a token of gratitude. There, she meets Princess Otohime, who instantly falls in love with her. Driven by her feelings, Otohime follows Nagisa to the surface world, adopting the name Kameko Tatsunomiya and becoming her neighbor.

From One-Shot to Short Series

Akeko initially published “Love Love Shitai Tatsunomiya-san wa Jōriku Shimashita” as a one-shot manga in Kadokawa’s Monthly Asuka magazine in May 2022. Its positive reception led to its serialization later that year. The first compiled book volume was released in August 2023.

Suzu Akeko’s Previous Work

Before “Love Love Shitai Tatsunomiya-san wa Jōriku Shimashita,” Akeko created “The Illustrated Guide to Monster Girls” (Kaibutsu Shōjo Zukan). This manga also ran in Monthly Asuka, launching in 2019 and concluding with its fourth volume in 2022. Notably, Yen Press has published all four volumes of “The Illustrated Guide to Monster Girls” in English, making it accessible to a wider audience.

Community Reaction

The news of the manga’s conclusion has already sparked discussion among fans. Some express disappointment that the series is ending so soon, especially given its charming premise. Despite the early ending, some fans have expressed interest in purchasing the volumes and hope that Seven Seas will consider picking up the series for English publication if there is enough interest shown in their survey.

Kadokawa’s Involvement

Kadokawa is the publisher of “Love Love Shitai Tatsunomiya-san wa Jōriku Shimashita” and was the entity that announced the ending of the manga. Kadokawa World Entertainment (KWE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kadokawa Corporation, is the majority owner of Anime News Network, LLC.

Manga’s Popularity

The manga has garnered attention for its unique storyline and appealing characters. The premise of an undersea princess falling in love with a college student offers a fresh take on the romance genre, blending fantasy elements with everyday life. The series explores themes of love, cultural exchange, and adapting to new environments.

What’s Next for Suzu Akeko?

While “Love Love Shitai Tatsunomiya-san wa Jōriku Shimashita” is ending, fans of Suzu Akeko’s work will likely be eager to see what the mangaka has planned for the future. With a track record of creating imaginative and engaging stories, Akeko has established a dedicated following in the manga community.

Key Story Elements:

  • Nagisa Nii: A college student who rescues a turtle.
  • Otohime/Kameko Tatsunomiya: An undersea princess who falls in love with Nagisa.
  • Ryūgū Castle: The undersea castle where Otohime lives.
  • Monthly Asuka: The magazine where both “Love Love Shitai Tatsunomiya-san wa Jōriku Shimashita” and “The Illustrated Guide to Monster Girls” were serialized.

Final Thoughts

The conclusion of “Love Love Shitai Tatsunomiya-san wa Jōriku Shimashita” may be bittersweet for fans, but the series has undoubtedly left a memorable mark with its charming story and endearing characters. The upcoming release of the second and final volume on April 24th will provide closure to the tale of Nagisa and Otohime, while also prompting anticipation for Suzu Akeko’s future projects.
