Manga Planet has officially announced the print release of the Boys’ Love (BL) title Psychedelia by Hidebu Takahashi, under its futekiya imprint. Pre-orders for the new print editions are currently open via Kinokuniya USA’s online store, with an early-bird sale planned for New York Comic Con 2025. This move signifies a strategic shift for Manga Planet towards print publishing, especially as the company plans to cease its digital subscription service in March 2026.
A New Chapter for “Psychedelia”
Psychedelia tells the story of Shohei “Mizo” Mizoshiri, a junior detective who harbors feelings for his senior colleague, Toranosuke Hino. The narrative takes a supernatural turn when an investigation goes awry, leaving Hino in a coma and Mizo grappling with guilt. Mizo’s life is then upended when he discovers Hino’s living spirit has appeared in his home. The manga is praised for its unique blend of mystery, psychological depth, and supernatural elements within the Boys’ Love genre, offering a poignant romance.
The manga, which debuted digitally in English through Manga Planet in August 2023, originally ran in .Bloom from May 2021 to March 2022, with its single compiled volume shipping in Japan in April 2022.
Availability and Pre-Order Information
The initial print release of Psychedelia will be exclusively available through Kinokuniya USA. Fans can pre-order the title now from Kinokuniya USA’s online store for $12.99 USD. An early-bird sale is scheduled to take place at New York Comic Con 2025, from October 9th to 12th, at the Kinokuniya Bookstore booth (#3301). Following the convention, the manga will also be available in Kinokuniya USA stores.
For readers outside the United States or those unable to access Kinokuniya USA stores, Psychedelia will eventually be made available to other bookstores internationally after its initial exclusive release. Retailers interested in stocking Psychedelia or other Manga Planet and futekiya titles can find more information regarding distribution through Manga Planet’s official channels.
Manga Planet’s Strategic Pivot to Print
This print release is part of a broader strategic shift for Manga Planet. The company recently announced the closure of its digital subscription service on March 31, 2026, citing “various circumstances like recent restrictions from payment processors and the changing online landscape.” Manga Planet’s digital platform, which offered unlimited access to manga for a monthly subscription, faced challenges including the suspension of its account with payment provider Stripe due to R18 (Restricted 18+) content.
As the digital service winds down, Manga Planet is redirecting its focus entirely to print releases through its Manga Planet and futekiya imprints. This shift aims to continue engaging with readers through physical editions of various titles, including other upcoming releases such as Here and There and Us, The Farthest Love in the World, and Perfect Propose. This move reflects the company’s commitment to delivering manga to global readers while adapting to the evolving challenges and opportunities within the manga industry.
The transition to print signifies a new direction for Manga Planet, aiming to overcome digital distribution hurdles and cater to the demand for physical manga copies.
