The much-anticipated anime adaptation of Aki Akimoto’s romantic comedy manga, “Mechanical Marie” (Kikaijikake no Marie), officially premiered on October 5, 2025, bringing its unique blend of action, romance, and deception to screens. The series launched in Japan on Tokyo MX, ytv, and BS Fuji, and is being streamed worldwide by Crunchyroll. As of October 20, 2025, the anime is well into its inaugural season, with new episodes releasing weekly.

A Tale of Hidden Identity and Unexpected Romance

“Mechanical Marie” introduces viewers to Arthur Zetes, the cynical heir to a vast corporation who harbors a deep distrust of humans due to constant assassination attempts from jealous family members. Seeking a companion he can truly trust, Arthur requests an emotionless robot maid. Enter Marie Evans, a former martial arts prodigy burdened by debt, who is hired to masquerade as the “automaton” maid and bodyguard.

Marie’s naturally expressionless face makes her the perfect candidate for the role, allowing her to flawlessly carry out her duties while secretly protecting Arthur from various threats. The core of the story revolves around the comedic and heartwarming complications that arise when Arthur, unaware of Marie’s true human identity, begins to fall in love with his seemingly mechanical servant. Marie, in turn, finds herself developing feelings for her eccentric master, creating a delicate balance of thrilling close calls and burgeoning romance.

Star-Studded Cast Brings Characters to Life

The anime boasts a talented voice cast bringing Akimoto’s beloved characters to life. Nao Tōyama stars as the titular Marie, while Haruki Ishiya lends his voice to the human-hating heir, Arthur. Other key cast members include Ami Koshimizu as Marie-2, Chiaki Kobayashi as Noah (an assassin often sent by Arthur’s stepbrother), Yūichirō Umehara as Roy (Arthur’s close aide), and Daishi Kajita as Maynard, Arthur’s resentful older stepbrother who frequently orchestrates assassination attempts.

Dedicated Production Team Behind the Scenes

The “Mechanical Marie” anime series is a collaboration between studios Zero-G and Lieber. Veteran director Junji Nishimura (known for works such as Bakuon!! and The Fire Hunter) is at the helm, ensuring a compelling visual narrative. Mariko Kunisawa is responsible for the series scripts, while Yōko Kikuchi handles the character designs. The captivating musical score is a joint effort by composers Yasuharu Takanashi and Johannes Nilsson.

Broadcast and Global Streaming

“Mechanical Marie” officially began airing on October 5, 2025, on Tokyo MX, followed by broadcasts on ytv and BS Fuji. For international viewers, Crunchyroll is the primary platform, offering weekly English-subtitled episodes. New episodes are typically released on Sundays at 7:00 a.m. PDT / 10:00 a.m. EDT. The season is slated to run for at least 12 episodes, promising a full arc of romantic comedy and thrilling undercover antics.

From Popular Manga to Anime Sensation

The anime is based on Aki Akimoto’s original manga series, “Mechanical Marie,” which was initially published as a one-shot in Hakusensha’s LaLa shōjo manga magazine in March 2020. Its popularity led to a full serialization from June 2020 to June 2023, resulting in six tankōbon volumes. Yen Press has licensed the manga for English publication, with the first volume released in August 2025. A sequel series, “Mechanical Marie+,” is also currently being serialized in LaLa.

With its intriguing premise, dynamic characters, and a blend of action and romantic comedy, “Mechanical Marie” is set to be a standout addition to the Fall 2025 anime season, promising viewers a heartwarming and humorous journey as Marie navigates her dangerous secret and Arthur grapples with his growing affections for his “perfect” mechanical maid.
