Fans of the competitive figure skating anime Medalist can mark their calendars: the highly anticipated second season is officially set to premiere on January 24, 2026. A new promotional video has not only showcased fresh footage but also unveiled additional voice cast members joining the series and announced HANA as the artist for the opening theme song, “Cold Night.”
The series will broadcast on TV Asahi’s “NUMAnimation” programming block and 23 other affiliated channels.
New Talents Join the Ice-Skating Drama
The first promotional video for Medalist Season 2 introduces a significant expansion to its cast, revealing ten new voice actors who will bring to life characters competing in the crucial Chubu Block Tournament. This tournament will be a central competitive stage in the upcoming season.
The newly announced cast members include:
- Natsuko Abe as Yuna Yagi
- Mao Ito as Rinna Sarukawa
- Maria Naganawa as Manaka Roba
- Minami Tanaka as Yotsuha Ushikawa
- Hikaru Tono as Kurumi Risu
- Takako Tanaka as Sakina Anaguma
- Yuko Natsuyoshi as Sana Niwatori
- Hibiki Yamamura as Iruka Okazaki
- Kotomi Aihara as Riina Kojo
- Ai Kayano as Marika Kurione
These new additions will join the returning main cast, including Natsumi Haruse as protagonist Inori Yuitsuka and Takeo Otsuka as her dedicated coach, Tsukasa Akeuraji.
HANA to Perform Opening Theme “Cold Night”
The electrifying new opening theme for Medalist Season 2, titled “Cold Night,” will be performed by artist HANA. A preview of the track is featured in the recently released first promotional video, offering fans a taste of the soundtrack that will accompany Inori’s continued journey on the ice.
This follows the highly praised opening theme “BOW AND ARROW” by Kenshi Yonezu from the first season, setting a high bar for the musical accompaniment of the series.
What to Expect in Medalist Season 2
Medalist Season 2 is set to delve deeper into Inori Yuitsuka’s figure skating career as she tackles the demanding Chubu Regional Championships. Here, she and her competitors will vie for a coveted spot in the All-Japan Championships. Having entered the Novice Class, Inori faces an even higher level of competition and pressure, promising intense and emotionally charged performances.
Studio ENGI will once again be at the helm of the animation production. The main creative staff from the first season will be returning, ensuring continuity in the acclaimed adaptation. Yasutaka Yamamoto is set to direct, with Jukki Hanada handling series composition and script. Chinatsu Kameyama will continue as the character designer and chief animation director, while Yuki Hayashi composes the music. Notably, former Olympic skater Akiko Suzuki will also return to choreograph the intricate skating routines, ensuring authenticity and spectacular on-ice action.
The first season garnered significant praise for its compelling narrative of ambition, resilience, and the rigorous world of figure skating, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated return in January 2026.
