Voice actress Megumi Han, known for her roles as Gon Freecss in Hunter × Hunter and Kana Arima in Oshi no Ko, will perform the theme song for the upcoming fourth film in the Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 series. The song is set to launch on September 30, ahead of the film’s theatrical premiere in Japan on October 10. Han also notably portrays the character Sasha in the film series, a role her mother, veteran voice actress Keiko Han, originated in the 1980 Be Forever Yamato movie.

The Latest Chapter: “Mizuiro no Sasha”

The fourth installment of the Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 saga is titled “Mizuiro no Sasha” (The Aqua Sasha) and is slated to open in Japanese theaters on October 10. This continues the seven-part film series, which remakes and reinterprets the original 1980 film Be Forever Yamato and incorporates elements from Space Battleship Yamato III. Crunchyroll is simulcasting the series under the title Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199.

Megumi Han’s Role as Sasha

Megumi Han has taken on the pivotal role of Sasha, the niece of protagonist Susumu Kodai, beginning with the second film in the Rebel 3199 series. Sasha is a critical character in the unfolding narrative, carrying a significant legacy within the Yamato universe. This casting is particularly noteworthy as Megumi Han’s mother, Keiko Han, voiced Sasha in the original Be Forever Yamato film. Keiko Han also currently plays Mother Desarium in the remake series, creating a unique mother-daughter voice acting duo in the franchise.

Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 Series Overview

The Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 project is a direct sequel to Star Blazers 2205 (Uchū Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi), and is designed to be released as seven theatrical films, which will also be adapted into a 26-episode TV series.

The series’ previous films include:

  • First Film: “Kuro no Shinryaku” (Dark Invasion), which premiered in July 2024 and earned approximately 58,863,050 yen (about US$397,813) in its initial three days.
  • Second Film: “Sekijitsu no Shutsugeki” (The Assault of the Burning Sun), which premiered in November 2024 and garnered around 64,118,600 yen (about US$433,331) in its first three days. Daisuke Ono, who voices Susumu Kodai, performed the ending theme for this film.
  • Third Film: “Gunjō no Asteroid” (Ultramarine Asteroid), released in April 2025, featured “Eureka” by artist TRUE as its ending theme.

The narrative of Rebel 3199 is set in the year 2207, two years after the disappearance of Gamilas and Iskandar. The story kicks off with the sudden appearance of a mysterious giant object, “Grand Reverse,” in the solar system, which penetrates Earth’s defenses and descends upon its new capital city. The former Yamato crew is subsequently issued a top-secret order to reunite, embarking on a perilous journey as humanity faces an unknown invader.

Production and Creative Team

The creative team behind Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 features a blend of returning and new staff. Harutoshi Fukui, who previously worked on Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love and Space Battleship Yamato 2205: The New Voyage, serves as supervising director, head writer, and scriptwriter. Naomichi Yamato is directing the series. Hideki Oka is also a returning co-writer on the script, and Nobuteru Yūki is credited for character designs. Music is composed by Akira Miyagawa and Shū Kanematsu, with Akira Miyagawa’s late father and original Space Battleship Yamato composer Hiroshi Miyagawa also credited.

The Blu-ray Disc and DVD release for the fourth film, “Mizuiro no Sasha,” is scheduled for December 24 in Japan.
