Production and Legacy of MF Ghost
MF Ghost is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Shuichi Shigeno, serving as a sequel to his iconic Initial D. The story is set in 202X, where self-driving electric cars have largely replaced internal combustion engines. However, an organization called MFG, founded by Ryosuke Takahashi from Initial D, keeps the spirit of street racing alive with traditional combustion cars. Kanata Rivington, a 19-year-old Japanese-British driver, enters the scene under the pseudonym Kanata Katagiri, driving a Toyota 86.
Felix Film is the animation studio behind the MF Ghost anime adaptation. Tomohito Naka directs the anime, with Kenichi Yamashita handling the series composition and scripts, Naoyuki Onda designing the characters, and Akio Dobashi composing the music. The first season aired from October to December 2023, followed by a second season from October to December 2024. The staff from previous seasons are expected to return for the third installment.
Ahead of the broadcast, lead cast members Yuma Uchida (Kanata Katagiri), Ayane Sakura (Ren Saionji), and director Toshihito Naka have shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming season, further building anticipation among fans. The manga itself concluded its serialization in February 2025.
