The upcoming CG anime short, Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, has unveiled its second trailer, offering a glimpse into its expanded cast and announcing its theme song ahead of its July 3 debut. A sequel to animator Yohei Kameyama’s 2022 short Milky☆Highway, the new production promises a chaotic space-train spectacle.
An All-Star Cast Boards the Galactic Express
The second trailer for Milky☆Subway introduces several new voice actors who will join the previously announced Momoka Terasawa as Chiharu and Anna Nagase as Makina. The newly revealed cast members are:
- Hisako Kanemoto as Akane
- Mikako Komatsu as Ryōko
- Kōki Uchiyama as Kurt
- Makoto Koichi as Kanata
- Yoshitaka Yamaya as Max
These additions complete the eclectic crew of characters who find themselves embroiled in the unexpected journey of the Milky☆Subway.
A Blast from the Past: Candies’ “Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!”
Adding a nostalgic touch to the futuristic setting, the anime’s theme song has been revealed as “Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!” (Fly to the Galaxy!), a 1977 classic by the popular Japanese girl group Candies. This choice of a vintage track hints at a unique blend of retro aesthetics and modern CG animation.
Plot Overview: Chaos on the Interplanetary Rails
The narrative of Milky☆Subway follows superhuman Chiharu and cyborg Makina, who are apprehended for violating space traffic laws. As part of their community service, they are assigned to clean the “Milky☆Subway,” an interplanetary train. What begins as a seemingly straightforward task quickly devolves into disarray when the train unexpectedly departs into deep space, thrusting the misfit crew into an unpredictable and chaotic adventure. The series is described as a “never-before-seen space-train spectacle, powered by nothing but pure momentum!”
Creative Vision by Yohei Kameyama
Animator Yohei Kameyama is at the helm of Milky☆Subway, serving as its director, writer, and producer. Kameyama also took on numerous other responsibilities, including character designs, modeling, animation, and editing, showcasing a largely one-man production approach. This sequel builds upon the success of his 2022 CG anime short, Milky☆Highway, which garnered significant attention.
