The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryū), has unveiled its non-credit opening, additional cast members, and new visuals as it premiered in Japan on June 27, 2025. The movie, which continues directly after the events of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2, is animated by Kyoto Animation and directed by Tatsuya Ishihara.
Non-Credit Opening and Theme Songs
The non-credit opening sequence for the film has been released, featuring the opening theme song “Namida no Parade” (Parade of Tears) performed by fhána. fhána previously performed theme songs for the television series. The film’s ending theme song, titled “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Days of Us” or “Our Days”), is performed by legendary enka singer Sachiko Kobayashi, who also joins the cast. Additionally, Kotringo performs the insert song “Negaigoto” (Wish).
Expanding the Voice Cast
The film introduces several new voices to the beloved cast. Fumihiko Tachiki takes on the role of Kimun Kamui, Kanna’s father and the leader of the Chaos Forces. Nobunaga Shimazaki voices Azad. Shiori Sugiura steps in as Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi. Notably, veteran singer Sachiko Kobayashi joins the cast as Felicitas, a dragon within Kimun Kamui’s army. Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro are also confirmed to be voicing fairies in the film.
The returning main cast includes Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna. Other returning voice actors reprise their roles, such as Yūki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa, Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi.
New Visuals and Plot Overview
To commemorate the theatrical release in Japan, a special collaboration visual co-drawn by the original manga author Coolkyousinnjya and the anime’s character designer Miku Kadowaki was posted, featuring key characters Kanna, Kobayashi, Tohru, Iruru, and the new dragons Kimun Kamui and Azad. A new key visual was also revealed at AnimeJapan 2025, bearing the tagline, “I don’t want to let go of this hand.”
The film’s plot centers on Kanna, whose peaceful life with Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru is disrupted by the arrival of her father, Kamun Kamui. He compels Kanna to return to the Dragon World to rectify a past mistake, leading to a brewing war between the Chaos and Harmony factions. Kanna finds herself torn between her loyalty to her friends and her father’s demands. Miss Kobayashi endeavors to mend the fractured relationship between Kanna and Kamui, while Iruru uncovers a hidden force manipulating the conflict.
The movie has a runtime of 105 minutes. Crunchyroll has secured the worldwide theatrical rights for the film, excluding Asia, and plans to screen it in North America with Japanese audio and English subtitles.
