The highly anticipated anime film Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved has revealed its non-credit opening, additional cast members, and a new visual. The movie premiered in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025.
A Deeper Look into the Film’s New Elements
The film, which picks up directly after the events of the second season of the TV anime, focuses on Kanna Kamui as her father, Kimun Kamui, forces her to return to the Dragon World. This sets the stage for a conflict between Chaos and Harmony, with Kanna torn between her loyalties.
Additional Cast and Character Changes
Joining the established voice cast are Fumihiko Tachiki as Kimun Kamui, Kanna’s father, and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Azad. Notably, Shiori Sugiura takes over the role of Ilulu in the film, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022. Singer Sachiko Kobayashi also joins the cast as Felicitas, a dragon within Kimun Kamui’s army, and performs the film’s ending theme song, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Days of Us”). The returning main voice cast includes Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, Maria Naganawa as Kanna, Yūki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa, Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi.
Visuals and Theme Music
A new key visual for the film was unveiled at AnimeJapan 2025, providing a fresh look at the movie’s aesthetic and characters. The opening theme song, “Namida no Parade” (Parade of Tears), is performed by the Japanese music group fhána, who also provided themes for the previous TV series. An advance screening of the film was held in Japan on May 26.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara, who previously helmed Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!. Yuka Yamada is responsible for the script, and Miku Kadowaki handled the character designs and served as chief animation director. Kyoto Animation is the animation studio behind the film.
Crunchyroll has acquired the worldwide theatrical rights to the film, excluding Asia, and plans to screen the movie in North America in Japanese with English subtitles. Further details regarding international territories and release dates are expected to be announced later. The film has a runtime of 105 minutes and is available for viewing in 4DX and MX4D in Japan, offering an immersive cinematic experience.
