The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved (Kobayashi-san Chi no Meidoragon: Samishigariya no Ryū), which premiered in Japan on June 27, 2025, has revealed its non-credit opening, additional cast members, and new visuals.
Opening Sequence and Theme Song
Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the film, has released the creditless opening sequence for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved. The film’s opening theme song is “Namida no Parade” (Tearful Parade), performed by the band fhána.
Expanded Voice Cast
The film introduces several new voice cast members to its beloved ensemble. Fumihiko Tachiki joins as Kimun Kamui, and Nobunaga Shimazaki takes on the role of Azad. A notable change sees Shiori Sugiura voicing the character Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022. Additionally, Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro are confirmed to be voicing fairies in the film.
The core cast members reprise their roles, including Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna. Also returning are Yūki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa, Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi.
Visuals and Production
To commemorate the film’s theatrical release, a special collaboration visual co-drawn by Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid original manga author Coolkyoushinja and anime character designer Miku Kadowaki was unveiled. Several new key visuals for the film have also been revealed previously, showcasing both familiar faces and new characters.
Tatsuya Ishihara directs the anime film, with Yuka Yamada providing the script and Miku Kadowaki handling character designs and serving as chief animation director. The film’s ending theme song, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Days of Us”), is performed by Sachiko Kobayashi, while kotringo performs the insert song “Negaigoto” (Wish).
The film opened in 199 theaters across Japan and offers immersive 4DX and MX4D screenings. Crunchyroll has acquired the worldwide theatrical rights to the film, excluding Asia, and plans to screen it in North America in Japanese with English subtitles.
