The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, has revealed its non-credit opening, additional cast members, and new visuals in conjunction with its recent theatrical premiere in Japan. The movie, which debuted on June 27, 2025, continues the beloved supernatural slice-of-life story animated by Kyoto Animation.
The film’s opening theme song, “Namida no Parade” (Parade of Tears), performed by the Japanese pop-rock band fhána, was released as a music video alongside the film’s premiere. fhána has a history with the franchise, having provided theme songs since the first TV series in 2017. The ending theme, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (Days of Us), is performed by Sachiko Kobayashi, with an insert song “Negaigoto” (Wish) by kotringo also featured in the film.
The film introduces new characters voiced by a talented cast. Kanna’s father, Kimun Kamui, is voiced by Fumihiko Tachiki, and Azad is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki. Additionally, Shiori Sugiura takes over the role of Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022. Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro also join the cast, lending their voices to fairies.
The returning voice cast members reprise their roles, including Mutsumi Tamura as Miss Kobayashi, Yuki Kuwahara as Tohru, Maria Naganawa as Kanna Kamui, Yuki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa (Quetzalcoatl), Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yuichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Kato as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shota Magatsuchi.
Ahead of its release, a new key visual for the film was unveiled at AnimeJapan 2025. Furthermore, a special collaboration visual was released, co-drawn by the original manga author Coolkyousinnjya and the anime’s character designer Miku Kadowaki. This visual features Kanna, Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru by Coolkyousinnjya, alongside Kimun Kamui and Azad by Miku Kadowaki, depicted in a confrontational stance.
The movie, directed by Tatsuya Ishihara at Kyoto Animation, picks up directly after the events of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, the second season of the TV anime. Crunchyroll has secured the worldwide theatrical rights for the film, excluding Asia, and plans to release it in North America with Japanese audio and English subtitles.
