The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Ghost Mikawa’s light novel series, “My Friend’s Little Sister Has It In for Me!” (also known as Tomodachi no Imōto ga Ore ni Dake Uzai or ImoUza), has revealed its main trailer, key visual, and confirmed an October 4, 2025, premiere date. The new promotional video also offers a preview of the anime’s opening and ending theme songs.

Premiere Details and Broadcast Information

“My Friend’s Little Sister Has It In for Me!” is officially scheduled to begin its broadcast on October 4, 2025, effectively October 5 at 1:30 AM JST. The series will air on the NUMAnimation programming block on TV Asahi and its affiliates, as well as BS11. Studio Blade is handling the animation production for the series.

Theme Songs Revealed in Main Trailer

The recently released main trailer provides fans with their first listen to the anime’s theme songs. The opening theme, titled “Uza Kawaikute Nani ga Warui!” (which translates to “What’s Wrong with Being Annoyingly Cute!?”), will be performed by VTuber Akami Karubi. Meanwhile, the ending theme, “Hoshi no Kodo” (“Heartbeat of the Stars”), is sung by Kohana Lam. Both songs are featured in the new trailer, giving viewers a taste of the anime’s musical direction.

Diving Into the Plot of ImoUza

The romantic comedy series centers on Akiteru Ōboshi, an ordinary high school student. He considers himself a well-rounded average student, yet he harbors a hidden side. Akiteru’s best friend is Ozuma Kohinata. However, it’s Ozuma’s younger sister, Iroha, who frequently visits Akiteru’s house and acts annoyingly towards him—a stark contrast to her kind and diligent honor student persona at school.

The plot thickens when Akiteru’s uncle proposes a deal: if Akiteru enters a pretend relationship with his cousin, Mashiro Tsukinomori, his uncle will support Akiteru’s game development group, the “5th Floor Alliance.” This arrangement is expected to turn Akiteru’s carefully organized daily life upside down, constantly placing him between the antics of Iroha and Mashiro.

The light novel series is described by J-Novel Club with a tagline: “If a girl teases you, that means she likes you! Unfortunately, Akiteru knows from experience that isn’t the case.” His interactions with girls have historically resulted in scorn, leaving him dateless.

Staff and Cast Bringing the Story to Life

The anime adaptation is directed by Kazuomi Koga, known for his work on series like Rent-A-Girlfriend. Touko Machida is in charge of the series composition and scripts, while Katsuyuki Sato is designing the characters. The music for the series is composed by Tsugumi Tanaka, Kaho Sawada, Kanade Sakuma, and Hanae Nakamura.

The voice cast from the drama CD adaptation will be reprising their roles for the anime, ensuring continuity for fans of the original work. The main cast includes:

  • Haruki Ishiya as Akiteru Ooboshi
  • Sayumi Suzushiro as Iroha Kohinata
  • Tomori Kusunoki as Mashiro Tsukinomori
  • Soma Saito as Ozuma Kohinata
  • Kana Hanazawa as Sumire Kageishi

Originating as a Popular Light Novel Series

“My Friend’s Little Sister Has It In for Me!” (Tomodachi no Imōto ga Ore ni Dake Uzai) originated as a light novel series written by Ghost Mikawa and illustrated by Tomari. It began publication under SB Creative’s GA Bunko imprint in April 2019. As of March 2025, the series has 11 volumes. J-Novel Club has licensed the light novel for North American release. A manga adaptation by Hira Hiraoka has been serialized online in Square Enix’s Manga Up! magazine since December 2019, with Comikey also publishing it in English. The anime adaptation was first announced in January 2021.
