A new trailer for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, the anime adaptation of the popular spin-off manga, has been released, offering fans a sneak peek at the animation, characters, and the opening theme song. The anime is set to premiere on April 7, 2025, and will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll (excluding Asia).

“My Hero Academia: Vigilantes” Anime Adaptation Announced

The My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manga, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court, serves as both a spin-off and a prequel to Kōhei Horikoshi’s main My Hero Academia series. The manga was first published in Shueisha’s Jump Giga in August 2016 before moving to Shōnen Jump+ later that year. The series concluded in May 2022, spanning 15 volumes. News of the anime adaptation was revealed at Jump Festa ’25 on December 22, 2024, exciting fans who have long awaited the animated version of this beloved spin-off.

Storyline

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes takes place five years before the events of the main series. The story revolves around Koichi Haimawari, a college student who aspires to be a hero but lacks the qualifications to become a pro. Despite this, he uses his Quirk to help others in small ways, dressing up in an All Might cosplay. His life changes when he encounters Pop☆Step, an unauthorized idol performer, and Knuckleduster, a mysterious vigilante. Drawn into their world, Koichi joins them as a vigilante, grappling with the complexities of justice outside the bounds of the law.

Trailer Reveals “Kekka Orai” Opening Theme

The newly released trailer previews the anime’s opening theme song, “Kekka Orai” (All’s Well in the End), performed by Kocchi no Kento. The song adds a vibrant and energetic feel to the trailer, perfectly complementing the action-packed scenes and the overall tone of the series. Kocchi no Kento is also known for his viral song “Hai Yorokonde”.

Crunchyroll to Stream the Series

Crunchyroll has announced that it will stream My Hero Academia: Vigilantes worldwide, excluding Asia. New episodes will be available weekly, on the same day they air in Japan. This will allow international fans to keep up with the series as it unfolds.

Key Characters and Voice Cast

The anime features a stellar voice cast, including:

  • Shūichirō Umeda as Kōichi Haimawari/The Crawler
  • Ikumi Hasegawa as Kazuho Haneyama/Pop Step
  • Yasuhiro Mamiya as Iwao Oguro/Knuckleduster
  • Kenta Miyake as Toshinori Yagi/All Might
  • Junichi Suwabe as Shota Aizawa/Eraser Head
  • Hiroyuki Yoshino as Hizashi Yamada/Present Mic
  • Akeno Watanabe as Nemuri Kayama/Midnight
  • Masamichi Kitada as Tensei Iida/Ingenium
  • Tokuyoshi Kawashima as Naomasa Tsukauchi
  • Sayaka Sembongi as Kuin Hachisuka
  • Kohsuke Toriumi as Soga Kugisaki

Many of these actors are reprising their roles from the main My Hero Academia series, ensuring a sense of continuity for fans.

Production Details

The anime is being produced by Bones Film, the same studio behind the main My Hero Academia series. The production team includes:

  • Director: Kenichi Suzuki (known for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
  • Scriptwriter: Yōsuke Kuroda
  • Character Designer: Takahiko Yoshida
  • Music Composers: Yuki Hayashi, Shogo Yamashiro, and Yuki Furuhashi

With such a talented and experienced team, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is expected to deliver high-quality animation and a compelling storyline.

What to Expect

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes promises to explore a different side of the hero society, focusing on those who operate outside the official system. The series will delve into the motivations and challenges faced by vigilantes, offering a unique perspective on justice and heroism. Fans can also look forward to seeing familiar faces from the main series, as well as new characters and storylines that expand the My Hero Academia universe.

Exploring the Themes of Heroism

The series is expected to explore the complexities of heroism, as the protagonists navigate the ethical dilemmas of operating outside the law. By depicting heroes who aren’t officially sanctioned, Vigilantes could offer a more nuanced look at what it truly means to protect society.

Connection to Main Series

Being a prequel, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is set to enrich the overall narrative by providing additional context to events and characters in the main series. It will be interesting to see how the storylines connect and what new insights the prequel will offer.

The release of the trailer and the unveiling of the opening theme song have further fueled the excitement surrounding My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. With its premiere date fast approaching, fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the chance to dive into this new chapter of the My Hero Academia saga.
