The upcoming TV anime adaptation of Matsuri Akai’s popular light novel series, “My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s” ( Assassin de Aru Ore no Status ga Yūsha Yori mo Akiraka ni Tsuyoi Nodaga), has revealed additional cast members, production staff, and details regarding its opening theme song in a new promotional video. The series is set to premiere in October 2025.
New Additions to the Voice Cast
Three new voice actors have joined the ensemble, bringing to life key characters in the fantasy series. Sanae Kobayashi will voice Yoru, a monster belonging to the “Black Cat” species. Konomi Tamura is cast as Lia Lagoon, a mysterious girl possessing knowledge about why the protagonist Akira and his classmates were summoned to another world. Rounding out the new cast is Junichi Suwabe, who will portray Saran Mithray, the commander of the Retice Knights. These new cast members join the previously announced Takeo Otsuka as the protagonist Akira Oda and Saku Mizuno as the main heroine Amelia Rosequartz.
Unveiling the Opening Theme Song
The promotional video also offered a preview of the anime’s opening theme song, titled “Issen” (Flash of Light). This theme will be performed by the virtual girls duo VESPERBELL, marking their first time contributing a theme song for an anime series.
Expanded Production Team Details
The production team behind “My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s” has also seen further announcements. Newly revealed staff members include Yu Chen Jiang for Sub-Character Design, Kazutaka Ema handling Prop Design, and Kanemori Yasuda in charge of 3D CG. Akira Suzuki is serving as the Art Director, with Yūki Mori responsible for Color Design. The Compositing Director of Photography is Akihiro Takahashi, while Emi Onodera handles the Editing. Hiroto Morishita is the Sound Director, and Kanon is credited with Sound Production.
These additions complement the previously announced core staff, which includes Nobuyoshi Habara as the director, Kunihiko Okada overseeing Series Composition and Script, and Hirona Okada and Kaori Saito as Character Designers. Rihiro Yamane (also credited as Masahiro Yamane) is the Monster Designer, Mitsuru Ishihara is the Main Animator, and Satoshi Igarashi is composing the music. The animation production is handled by Sunrise, with TMS Entertainment also involved in production and planning.
The anime adaptation is based on Matsuri Akai’s light novel series, illustrated by Tozai, which began serialization in January 2017 and has a manga adaptation illustrated by Hiroyuki Aigamo.
