Nyalra, the acclaimed scenario writer behind the hit indie game Needy Streamer Overload (known as Needy Girl Overdose in Japan), publicly announced on November 10, 2025, that they have been removed from the management and promotional activities for the upcoming TV anime adaptation. The revelation came concurrently with the official announcement of the anime’s April 2026 premiere, as Nyalra detailed allegations of withheld wages and power harassment by publisher WSS Playground, while also teasing new independent projects.
Allegations of Removal and Financial Disputes
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Nyalra disclosed that WSS Playground informed them in October that the anime’s production would cease unless they were removed from public involvement. This decision prevents Nyalra from participating in promotional events or interviews for the highly anticipated anime series. Furthermore, Nyalra explicitly stated that they have not yet received full compensation for their work, with legal representatives currently reviewing and negotiating the matter to protect their creative rights and integrity. The writer also revealed a diagnosis of adjustment disorder and depression during this period.
Despite these personal and professional challenges, Nyalra expressed gratitude towards the anime’s staff, acknowledging their support, shared frustration, and dedication to bringing the envisioned world to life.
Nyalra’s Continued Creative Role and New Projects
While excluded from the promotional circuit, Nyalra remains deeply involved in the creative aspects of the Needy Streamer Overload anime. They are credited for the planning, supervision, and scenario of the series. Nyalra also confirmed having produced new songs for the anime and written all 13 scripts for the episodes.
In parallel with these developments, Nyalra has significantly expanded their independent creative ventures. In September 2025, they established a new company to manage the rights of future projects. This new endeavor includes plans for a previously announced 13-episode television anime, a new short visual novel game, and a larger-scale indie game. Nyalra teased artwork for two characters from the upcoming 13-episode anime, named Moudoku Denpa Shoujo (Toxic Dissociated Girl) Purple Lollipop and Karamazov, and has committed to spending the next two years creating their “ideal animation.” Nyalra’s statement confirmed that this new project with former production members will be announced this year.
The Needy Streamer Overload Anime Adaptation
The television anime adaptation of Needy Streamer Overload was officially announced on November 10, 2025, confirming a premiere window of April 2026. The series will be produced by Yostar Pictures and directed by Masaoki Nakashima, who also helmed a previous short anime for the game. The original character designs are attributed to Ohisashiburi, with main character designs by Kenji Saikai, Akari Takei, and Kaito Shimizu. Music for the series is composed by Aiobahn +81, Sasuke Haraguchi, and DÉ DÉ MOUSE.
The original game, released on Steam in January 2022, quickly gained popularity for its dark narrative, social satire, and exploration of mental health themes through the story of an internet streamer named OMGkawaiiAngel (KAngel) and her producer “P”. It has sold over 3 million copies, and its related music tracks have surpassed 400 million streams. Preview screenings for a specially edited theatrical cut of the anime episodes are scheduled to be held at Theatre Shinjuku and Theatre Umeda prior to the official broadcast.
The ongoing dispute between Nyalra and WSS Playground casts a shadow over the otherwise anticipated anime adaptation, highlighting the complexities of intellectual property rights and creator compensation in the entertainment industry. Fans are now keenly watching both the progression of the Needy Streamer Overload anime and the unveiling of Nyalra’s independent new projects.
