Tokyo, Japan – The upcoming Cat’s Eye anime, slated for a 2025 release on Disney+, has announced the addition of prominent voice actors Katsuyuki Konishi and Yōko Hikasa to its cast. Konishi will voice Masato Kamiya, a new character described as the model for City Hunter‘s Ryo Saeba, while Hikasa joins as detective Mitsuko Asatani. The series is set to debut in September 2025 as part of Disney+’s “Star” brand in Japan.
A New Chapter for a Classic
Tsukasa Hōjō’s iconic Cat’s Eye manga, which originally ran from 1981 to 1985 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, is receiving a brand new anime adaptation, marking its return to animation over 40 years after the original anime’s conclusion. The original manga follows the Kisugi sisters—Hitomi, Rui, and Ai—who operate a café by day and transform into the enigmatic art thief trio “Cat’s Eye” by night. Their mission is to reclaim artworks that belonged to their long-missing father, Michael Heinz. Hitomi’s fiancé, Toshio Utsumi, is coincidentally a clumsy police officer assigned to the “Cat’s Eye” case, remaining oblivious to their true identities.
The new anime will be directed by Yoshifumi Sueda (known for High School DxD Hero), with Hayashi Mori (Sand Land: The Series) handling the script, Yosuke Yabumoto (The Legendary Hero is Dead!) as character designer and chief animation director, and Yuki Hayashi (My Hero Academia) composing the music. The main trio of Kisugi sisters will be voiced by Mikako Komatsu (Hitomi), Ami Koshimizu (Rui), and Yumiri Hanamori (Ai), with Takuya Satō as Toshio Utsumi. Additionally, singer Ado is performing a cover of Anri’s “CAT’S EYE,” the original 1983 television anime’s opening theme song.
