A new television anime series in the beloved Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise, titled Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance, has been officially announced, with a teaser visual unveiling its debut in 2026. The announcement, made during AnimeJapan 2025 as part of the franchise’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, also revealed key staff returning to bring the magical girl action to screens once again.

Key Staff and Studio Revealed for EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance

The production team for Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance features familiar names to long-time fans of the series. Masaki Tsuzuki, the original story creator and scriptwriter for the franchise, is penning the narrative for the new anime. Takayuki Hamana, who previously directed the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation movies, is returning to helm the series.

Animation duties will be handled by Seven Arcs, the studio responsible for the original Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha television series that debuted in 2004. Issei Aragaki is serving as both character designer and chief animation director, with Shuichi Kawakami credited for the original character designs.

A Potential Return to Nanoha’s Younger Years

While specific plot details remain largely under wraps, a key visual for the associated manga tie-in offered a tantalizing hint: “Nanoha Takamachi is 13 years old. She is working energetically even today as a mage to help anyone.” This suggests that the new EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance project might revisit Nanoha’s earlier years or explore an alternate timeline, a common theme within the expansive Nanoha universe. Fans are eagerly anticipating further information to understand where this new chapter fits within the beloved magical girl saga.

The Expanding Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Universe

The Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise began as a spin-off of the Triangle Heart visual novel series in 2004 and has since grown into a multimedia phenomenon. It encompasses five anime television series, four theatrical films, numerous manga, and drama CD adaptations.

Major Anime Entries in the Franchise

  • Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (2004): The original 13-episode TV series, introducing Nanoha Takamachi as she assists an injured mage, Yuuno Scrya, in collecting dangerous “Jewel Seeds” and encounters Fate Testarossa.
  • Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A’s (2005): A direct sequel where Nanoha and Fate face the Wolkenritter and the threat of the Book of Darkness.
  • Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (2007): Set ten years later, featuring Nanoha and Fate as mentors to a new generation of mages within the Time-Space Administration Bureau (TSAB).
  • Movie Series (2010–2018): This includes retellings of the original series with Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 2nd A’s, followed by original stories such as Nanoha Reflection (2017) and Nanoha Detonation (2018).
  • Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid (2015) and ViVid Strike! (2016): Spin-off series focusing on new characters.

Celebrating 20 Years of Magic

The new anime is part of a broader 20th-anniversary celebration for the franchise. As part of these celebratory projects, a tie-in manga titled Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS began serialization on Kodansha’s Suiyōbi no Sirius service on April 16, with new chapters released on the first and third Wednesdays of every month. Additionally, a television edit of the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 2nd A’s films, dubbed Lyrical Selection or Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha 20th Anniversary Selection, started airing in October 2024.

Fans are eagerly awaiting more details regarding the story and characters of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance as its 2026 premiere approaches.
