Acclaimed manga artist Hiroyuki Nishimori (known for Kyō Kara Ore Wa!!) and artist Mifumi Inaba (Karakai Jōzu no (Moto) Takagi-san) are set to launch a new manga titled Itsuka Uchū Kara (One Day from Space) in the next issue of Shogakukan’s Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine on December 12. This upcoming series is a revival and renewal of Nishimori’s earlier work, Itsuka Sora Kara (One Day from the Sky), which had an irregular serialization in the same magazine starting in July 2010.
A Revived Sci-Fi Premise
Itsuka Uchū Kara will delve into the life of Yūki Nakagawa, a popular high school student whose seemingly perfect world is upended on his 17th birthday. His father reveals a startling truth: Yūki is an alien. Initially disbelieving, Yūki soon awakens to a mysterious new power, confirming his extraterrestrial heritage. The manga is expected to debut with a color opening page in its first chapter.

Hiroyuki Nishimori: A Veteran Storyteller
Hiroyuki Nishimori, credited with the story for Itsuka Uchū Kara, is a highly respected figure in the manga industry. Born on November 23, 1963, in Tokyo, Japan, Nishimori is celebrated for his distinctive style and engaging narratives. His most famous works include the delinquent comedy Kyō Kara Ore Wa!! (1988–1997) and the romantic comedy Cheeky Angel (1999–2003). Cheeky Angel notably won the 46th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2001. Both series have inspired anime adaptations, with Kyō Kara Ore Wa!! also receiving a live-action television series and film. Nishimori’s extensive bibliography showcases his versatility across genres, from action and comedy to romance and school life.
Mifumi Inaba: A Skillful Artist
Mifumi Inaba is handling the art for Itsuka Uchū Kara. Inaba is well-known for their work as the artist on Karakai Jōzu no (Moto) Takagi-san (Teasing Master (Formerly Known as) Takagi-san), a popular spinoff of Sōichirō Yamamoto’s Teasing Master Takagi-san manga. This spinoff, which depicted Takagi and Nishikata as married with a daughter named Chi, serialized in Shogakukan’s Manga ONE from July 2017 to July 2024. Inaba also launched Karakai Jōzu(?) no Nishikata-san in Monthly Shōnen Sunday, focusing on Chi’s middle school adventures. Inaba’s involvement brings a fresh artistic vision to Nishimori’s revived narrative.
