A new promotional video for the upcoming Yaiba: Samurai Legend anime has been released, featuring the opening theme song by the popular Japanese rock band Blue Encount. The anime, based on the manga by Gosho Aoyama, the creator of Detective Conan, is set to premiere on April 5, 2025, and the promo offers a sneak peek at the action-packed series and its energetic soundtrack.
Yaiba: Samurai Legend: A Fresh Take on a Classic
Yaiba: Samurai Legend (Shin Samurai-den Yaiba) is a remake of the original Yaiba anime series that aired in the 1990s. The manga, which was first published in 1988, follows the adventures of Yaiba Kurogane, a young samurai who grew up in the forest and is skilled in the ways of the samurai but knows little else. He returns to the city and discovers he’s a legendary warrior destined to face Takeshi Onimaru, a demonic high school student with ambitions to conquer the world. Yaiba, along with his allies, must embark on a quest to defeat Onimaru, encountering figures from Japanese history and mythology along the way.

The new anime adaptation is produced by Wit Studio, known for its work on Attack on Titan and Spy x Family. Takahiro Hasui (Mob Psycho 100 II) is directing the anime, with Touko Machida (7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life) in charge of series scripts. Yoshimichi Kameda (INU-OH) is the character designer and chief animation director, while Yutaka Yamada (Tokyo Ghoul) and Yoshiaki Dewa (IRODUKU: The World in Colors) are composing the music.

The band’s energetic sound is expected to perfectly complement the action and adventure of Yaiba: Samurai Legend. The title of the opening theme song has not yet been revealed.
Airing Schedule
Yaiba: Samurai Legend will premiere on April 5, 2025, airing on YTV, NTV, and their affiliates in Japan. It will occupy the 5:30 p.m. JST timeslot, right before Detective Conan, creating a “Gosho Aoyama Hour” programming block.
