Tokyo, Japan – Nio Nakatani, acclaimed creator of the popular yuri manga Bloom Into You, is set to debut her highly anticipated new series, Kimi wa Shūmatsu (You Are the End), on September 27. The manga will launch in the November 2025 issue of Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine, featuring a color opening page and gracing the issue’s front cover.
Delving into “Kimi wa Shūmatsu”
Kimi wa Shūmatsu is described as a romantic comedy with a unique twist: its heroine is an incredibly powerful being. Early teasers suggest a narrative where the male protagonist finds himself at the mercy of this formidable female character, with the text on an announcement page hinting that “things are not going well both in terms of romance and the world.”
The title itself, Kimi wa Shūmatsu, incorporates a clever play on the “sekai-kei” genre, a loosely defined category where a central human relationship often shapes the fate of the world. Notably, the kanji used for the “kai” (world) part of the term is associated with destruction, adding an intriguing layer to the romantic comedy premise.
Intriguing Visuals and Character Design
A preview illustration for Kimi wa Shūmatsu has already sparked discussion, showcasing the heroine with a distinctive unusual right eye. Her legs and left arm are depicted coming apart like slime, with some of this mysterious substance wrapped around the male character, lifting him into the air as she rests her face and right hand on his head. These visuals hint at the supernatural and possibly destructive elements central to the story, setting it apart from conventional romantic comedies.
Nio Nakatani’s Esteemed Career
Nio Nakatani is celebrated for her profound storytelling and distinctive art style. Her most prominent work, Bloom Into You (Yagate Kimi ni Naru), ran from April 2015 to September 2019 in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh and achieved significant commercial success, inspiring an anime adaptation, light novels, and a stage play.
Prior to Kimi wa Shūmatsu, Nakatani also serialized God Bless the Mistaken (Kami-sama ga Machigaeru) in the same magazine, which debuted in October 2021 and concluded in November 2023. That series was set in a world grappling with strange phenomena known as “bugs.”
With Kimi wa Shūmatsu, Nakatani continues to explore diverse genres, promising readers a fresh and captivating narrative that blends romance with fantastical, potentially world-altering stakes. Her new work is poised to be a significant addition to the manga landscape this fall.
