The beloved occult adventure series, Hell Teacher Nube (Jigoku Sensei Nube), is making a grand return with a new manga serialization and an upcoming anime adaptation set to premiere in July 2025. Fans can rejoice as Meisuke Nueno, affectionately known as Nube, is back to protect his students from supernatural threats!

A Classic Reborn: Nube Returns!

Hell Teacher Nube, created by Sho Makura and Takeshi Okano, originally captivated readers in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1993 to 1999. The story follows Nube, a kind-hearted teacher at Domori Elementary School who also happens to be a powerful exorcist. With a demon sealed in his left hand, Nube uses his abilities to shield his students from malevolent spirits and paranormal phenomena.

The manga’s blend of horror, comedy, and heartwarming moments resonated with audiences, leading to impressive sales of over 29 million copies. The series has spawned a 49-episode anime series (1996-1997), three anime films, three OVAs, and even a live-action drama in 2014.

New Manga Series: Jigoku Sensei Nube Kai

A new manga series titled Jigoku Sensei Nube Kai is set to launch in the June issue of Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump magazine on May 2, 2025. Sho Makura is credited with the original work, with Takeshi Okano illustrating the series.

In this new adventure, Nube will travel through time and space to rescue his students from class 5-3, who have been trapped in a world of ghost stories. This marks the first new Hell Teacher Nube serialization in four years, following the conclusion of Hell Teacher Nube: S in 2021.

Special One-Shot Prequel

To celebrate the upcoming release of Jigoku Sensei Nube Kai, a special one-shot prequel titled Hell Teacher Nube: Hyakumonogatari Kenbunroku (“Record of the Hundred Ghost Stories”) has been released on the official Saikyo Jump website.

This one-shot, which was initially published in the September 2024 issue of Saikyo Jump, offers a glimpse into the new series. The story follows Nube and his students as they venture into a world of ghost stories to rescue Hiro, who has been abducted by a yokai. The one-shot is available to read for free until June 3rd.

Story

The official website describes the story: “A number of inexplicable phenomena have been plaguing the town of Domori. In order to protect the town’s children, a new homeroom teacher known as “Nube” arrives. Normally gentle and a bit outgoing, Nube has a secret side: he is, in fact, the only psychic teacher in Japan. Rumor also has it his left hand is possessed by a demon! Hell’s messenger of justice is here to take on the school’s seven mysteries, ghosts, and evil spirits attacking his students. This occultist action story starts now!”
