Tokyo, Japan – The popular baseball manga series Oblivion Battery (Bōkyaku Battery), penned and illustrated by Eko Mikawa, has announced a hiatus from its serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online manga app. The series is slated to resume publication on September 4.
Oblivion Battery, which began its serialization in April 2018, follows the story of a formidable middle school baseball battery duo, Haruka Kiyomine and Kei Kaname, who unexpectedly reunite at an ordinary public high school. The narrative takes a surprising turn when it’s revealed that Kei Kaname, once a genius strategist, suffers from amnesia, having lost all memories of his baseball prowess. The manga chronicles their journey as they, along with other talented but disillusioned players, endeavor to reignite their passion for baseball and aim for national championships.
The series has gained significant traction since its debut, leading to various adaptations. An original net animation (ONA) produced by MAPPA streamed in October 2020. More recently, an anime television series, also by MAPPA, aired from April to July 2024, with a second season already announced. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service also began simultaneously publishing the manga in English on June 26. As of December 2024, the manga has been collected into 20 tankōbon volumes, with the 21st volume published in April 2024.
