Fans of the baseball anime Oblivion Battery can mark their calendars: the highly anticipated second season is officially slated to premiere in 2027. The announcement, accompanied by a new teaser visual and an announcement video, was made at the recent Jump Festa 2026 event. Animation powerhouse Studio MAPPA is confirmed to return to animate the series, continuing the saga of the talented high school baseball players.

Major Announcement at Jump Festa 2026

The exciting news for Oblivion Battery enthusiasts came during Jump Festa 2026, a prominent annual event for Shueisha’s manga and anime properties. The reveal confirmed the 2027 broadcast window and highlighted the return of the original main voice cast. Toshiki Masuda is set to reprise his role as the formidable pitcher Haruka Kiyomine, alongside Mamoru Miyano as the skilled catcher Kei Kaname. Other returning cast members include Yohei Azakami as Aoi Todo, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shunpei Chihaya, and Yuki Kaji as Taro Yamada, ensuring continuity in the beloved character portrayals.

“Oblivion Event Project” to Build Anticipation

To ramp up excitement leading into the second season’s debut, a multi-stage “Oblivion Event Project” has been launched, with activities scheduled to begin in April 2026. This extensive project includes several key events:

TV Anime Broadcast Second Anniversary Double Play Special

Starting in April 2026, fans can look forward to a special “TV Anime Broadcast Second Anniversary Double Play Special” program that will be streamed to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the first season’s broadcast.

Season 1 Retrospective Screening Relay

In the summer of 2026, the project will continue with a “Season 1 Retrospective Screening Relay.” This initiative will feature multiple theatrical screenings of the first season, held in a relay format across various venues, each accompanied by stage greetings from the cast members.

Season 2 Kickoff Event

As autumn 2026 approaches, a larger event titled “TV Anime Oblivion Battery Season 2 Kickoff Event” is scheduled, promising further details about the upcoming season. Additional information regarding each of these events is expected to be announced closer to their respective dates.

Recapping the First Season’s Success and Premise

The first season of Oblivion Battery premiered in April 2024 and captivated audiences over 12 episodes, which aired until July 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the series, making it accessible to a global audience.

The anime, based on Eko Mikawa’s high school baseball manga serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ since April 2018, tells the compelling story of a “monstrous battery duo.” Haruka Kiyomine, an incredibly talented pitcher, and Kei Kaname, a shrewd catcher, were once an unstoppable force in middle school baseball, crushing the dreams of many rivals. However, fate takes an unexpected turn when Kei is diagnosed with amnesia, losing all memories of his baseball prowess.

Against all odds, the duo reunites at the no-name Tokyo Municipal Kotesashi High School, a school not known for its baseball program. There, they encounter former rivals who had given up on baseball after their encounters with Kiyomine and Kaname. The series then follows their journey as they attempt to establish a new baseball club, reignite their passion for the sport, and navigate Kei’s memory loss, all while bringing former opponents back into the game.

With Studio MAPPA’s continued involvement and the original cast returning, the second season is poised to deliver more thrilling baseball action, heartwarming character development, and comedic hijinks that fans have come to love.
