The Story of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess
The anime follows the story of Prince Cecil, an exceptionally gifted but often bored individual. His life takes an intriguing turn when he becomes engaged to Miss Bertia, the Chancellor’s daughter. Bertia, however, makes a startling confession: she claims to be the villainess of their story, possessing memories of a former life where she was an antagonist in an “Otome game.” Her grand ambition is to excel in her villainous role, hoping to annul her engagement. Despite her efforts to commit various misdeeds, her plans consistently fall short, often with amusing and unexpected results. The narrative explores whether her fiancé, Prince Cecil, is simply oblivious to her attempts or genuinely misguided in his perceptions of her villainous endeavors.
The original light novel series, written by Shiki and illustrated by Wan Hachipisu, began serialization online before being formally published by AlphaPolis. It has also inspired a popular manga adaptation by Natsume Hasumi. Hanashi Media publishes the light novel series digitally in English.
