OceanVeil, the burgeoning anime streaming platform, has officially announced it will simulcast the second season of the historical samurai anime Blue Miburo (Ao no Miburo). The highly anticipated sequel is slated to premiere in Japan on December 20 at 5:30 PM JST, with OceanVeil making it available to stream an hour after its Japanese broadcast. This marks a significant addition to OceanVeil’s growing library, further establishing its presence in the competitive anime streaming landscape.
The Return of the Blue Wolves of Mibu
Blue Miburo, based on Tsuyoshi Yasuda’s manga The Blue Wolves of Mibu, delves into the tumultuous final years of Japan’s Edo Period, specifically 1863 in Kyoto. The story follows young Nio, an orphan with a strong sense of justice, who joins the Miburo—an outcast group of ronin destined to become the legendary Shinsengumi, loyal protectors of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
The first season, which ran for 24 episodes from October 2024 to March 2025, captivated audiences with its action-packed narrative of revolution, swords, and the founding of the Shinsengumi. Crunchyroll streamed the first season in various regions. The announcement for a second season came immediately after the first season’s finale in Japan, signaling strong anticipation for the continuation of Nio’s journey.
“Serizawa Assassination” Arc Takes Center Stage
Season 2 of Blue Miburo is confirmed to adapt the pivotal “Serizawa Assassination” arc. This arc will likely explore the historical event of Serizawa Kamo’s assassination, who was the original lead commander of the Mibu Roshigumi (later known as Shinsengumi). The new season promises to escalate the political intrigue and swordplay that defined the first installment.
Production and Returning Staff
The animated series is produced by MAHO FILM, with Kumiko Habara returning to direct the second season. Kenta Ihara is once again in charge of the series scripts, while Yūko Ōba and Miyako Nishida are reprising their roles as character designers. Yuki Hayashi is composing the music, and Toshiki Kameyama returns as the sound director. Taku Yashiro has been newly announced to join the cast as Yamazaki Susumu for the second season.
The main voice cast includes Shuichirou Umeda as Nio Chirinu, Chiaki Kobayashi as Hajime Saito, Shun Horie as Taro Tanaka, Yohei Azakami as Toshizo Hijikata, and Kensho Ono as Soji Okita.
OceanVeil’s Expanding Anime Horizon
OceanVeil, launched in February 2025 by WWWave Corporation, aims to offer a diverse range of anime titles, encompassing both “adult and mature” content and “more mainstream and popular non-mature titles”. The platform has been actively expanding its catalog, securing partnerships and licensing various classic and new anime series. Its commitment to offering simulcasts like Blue Miburo Season 2 positions OceanVeil as a significant player for anime enthusiasts seeking a broad spectrum of content. The platform also made the first season of Blue Miburo available in the weeks leading up to the Season 2 premiere, allowing new viewers to catch up.
Fans can anticipate the continuation of Nio’s compelling journey as he navigates a nation on the brink of profound change, striving for a better world alongside the nascent Shinsengumi.
