The popular manga series Please Tell Me! Galko-chan (Oshiete! Gyaruko-chan) has officially resumed its serialization on Kadokawa’s ComicWalker website as of October 15, 2025, following a significant hiatus prompted by the arrest and conviction of its creator, Kenya Suzuki. The series’ return marks a new chapter after a period of uncertainty that began in late 2021.
Creator’s Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Kenya Suzuki, the author and illustrator behind the comedic slice-of-life manga, was arrested on December 20, 2021, on suspicion of importing child pornography from Germany. Authorities stated that Suzuki had received two shipments from Germany containing six photo albums with images of nude children in the fall of 2020. A subsequent search of his home reportedly uncovered an additional 46 books of child pornography. Suzuki admitted his guilt during the investigation, stating his desire for “photos of nude children from overseas, which you can’t get in Japan.”
Suspension of the Manga and Sentencing
Following Suzuki’s arrest, Kadokawa’s ComicWalker, the platform where the manga was serialized, swiftly announced the suspension of Please Tell Me! Galko-chan on December 24, 2021. All previously published chapters were also removed from the app.
On March 29, 2022, Suzuki was sentenced to one year and two months in prison, which was suspended with probation for three years. A suspended sentence in Japan allows the convicted individual to return to society under probation, with the full prison term carried out if any further laws are broken during that period. The judge in the case described the crime as “a malicious act that promotes the sexual exploitation of children and is detrimental to the health of society.” Suzuki issued a statement on his Twitter account, admitting his guilt and expressing deep shame for his “lack of awareness and shallow behavior.” He clarified that he had purchased the books for “personal interest” and not as reference materials for his manga.
The Return of Galko-chan
After a suspension lasting almost four years, Please Tell Me! Galko-chan has resumed serialization. The series, known for its humorous exploration of high school life through the perspectives of the gyaru Galko, the otaku Otako, and the Ojou-sama, Ojou, originally began on Twitter before moving to ComicWalker in June 2014. It gained significant popularity, garnering over a million views by November 2015, and inspired a 12-episode anime adaptation in 2016.
The decision to resume the manga follows Suzuki’s completion of his suspended sentence period and his stated return to working on other projects. Fans of the series can now anticipate new chapters of the beloved comedy.
