The Pokémon Horizons anime is set to embark on a thrilling new chapter, with a trailer unveiled for its upcoming “Rising Again” arc, which officially debuts in Japan on October 31st. This highly anticipated storyline will see protagonists Liko and Roy, alongside the Rising Volt Tacklers, journey to the renowned Blueberry Academy, a setting familiar to players of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s “The Indigo Disk” DLC.
A Glimpse into the “Rising Again” Arc
The “Rising Again” arc promises fresh adventures and challenges for the Pokémon Horizons crew. The shift to Blueberry Academy indicates a focus on battling, training, and exploring the unique ecosystem of this underwater institution. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the academy’s role in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games suggests that Liko and Roy will engage in rigorous training and encounter powerful new rivals and allies within its walls. Fans can expect to see the dynamic duo further develop their skills and deepen their bonds with their Pokémon as they navigate this new academic environment.
Preceding Adventures: The “Episode: Mega Evolution” Mini-Arc
Before the main “Rising Again” arc commences, Pokémon Horizons will feature a special three-episode mini-arc titled “Episode: Mega Evolution,” starting October 10th in Japan. This precursor will bridge current events with the upcoming storyline and delve into the reintroduction of Mega Evolution to the anime. The mini-arc will specifically follow Roy and a new character, Uruto, as they undergo Mega Evolution training in Lumiose City, a location tied to the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A game.
New voice cast members have also been announced for this mini-arc, including Misaki Kuno as Emma (Matiere in Japanese), a character originating from Pokémon Legends Z-A, and Masahiko Tanaka as Master Mayonnaise. Their inclusion hints at significant plot developments and potential ties to broader Pokémon lore.
The Impact of a One-Year Time Skip
Adding another layer of anticipation, the “Episode: Mega Evolution” mini-arc is set to take place after a one-year time skip that occurred following the “Mega Voltage” arc. This significant jump in time will see Liko return to Indigo Academy, while Roy has been on his own adventure, looking after Captain Pikachu. The time skip suggests that both protagonists will have matured and gained new experiences, which will undoubtedly influence their approaches to the challenges awaiting them at Blueberry Academy. The previous “Mega Voltage” arc ended with critical events, including Spinel’s acquisition of the Six Heroes and Friede going missing, setting a dramatic stage for the characters’ return and reunion.
New Music and International Availability
The trailer for the “Rising Again” arc also offers a preview of the new opening theme song, “Iolite,” performed by Eve. While Japanese audiences can enjoy the new visuals and music, the trailer for the “Rising Again” arc is not currently available outside of Japan.
As of now, there is no confirmed international release date for the “Mega Voltage,” “Episode: Mega Evolution,” or “Rising Again” arcs. International fans, particularly those in North America, recently saw Part 4 of the series stream on Netflix starting November 22nd, 2024, leaving them eager for news on when they can experience these latest developments in Liko and Roy’s journey.
