Two notable figures in the manga industry, Rin Suzukawa, known for Asobi Asobase, and writer Jun Esaka, celebrated for his work on Naruto and One Piece novels, are set to debut new manga series this January. Both highly anticipated titles will launch on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app, promising fresh narratives from established creators.
Rin Suzukawa Unveils “Galaxy Pū-chan”
Rin Suzukawa, the acclaimed creator of the “surreal gag” comedy Asobi Asobase, is set to release a new full-color manga titled Galaxy Pū-chan Uchū no Hajikko de Konnichiwa (Galaxy Pū-chan: Hello from the Edge of the Universe) on January 4. Manga ONE describes this upcoming series as a “new dimension of absurd sci-fi comedy.”
Suzukawa’s Previous Works and Success
Suzukawa’s breakout hit, Asobi Asobase, captivated readers with its unique brand of humor revolving around a trio of high school girls and their unconventional “Pastimers Club.” The manga began serialization on Hakusensha’s Young Animal Densi website in 2015 before moving to the main Young Animal magazine in 2016, concluding in November 2022 with 15 volumes. The series also received a 12-episode anime adaptation in July 2018. Following Asobi Asobase, Suzukawa launched the two-volume Outsider Paradise manga in Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine in 2023, which was described as a human drama about quirky high school girls.
Jun Esaka Collaborates on “Yametai! ~Anata no Reset, Daikō Shimasu~”
Writer Jun Esaka will collaborate with manga artist Kine Usuto (Fukushokushi Lucia wa Akiramenai: Kyō kara Hajimeru Kōfuku Keikaku) to launch Yametai! ~Anata no Reset, Daikō Shimasu~ (I Want to Quit! ~I’ll Reset for You~) on January 11. This corporate drama manga will delve into the world of a “resignation agent” whose services promise to either lead clients to freedom or a “new hell.” Esaka is credited with writing the story, while Usuto handles the art.
Esaka’s Extensive Literary Background
Jun Esaka is widely recognized for his contributions to popular franchises through novelizations and original stories. His extensive bibliography includes several Naruto light novels, such as Naruto: Sasuke’s Story—The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust, which also received a manga adaptation. He also penned One Piece novel HEROINES and a novel adaptation of Kamome Shirahama’s Witch Hat Atelier manga. Additionally, Esaka has contributed to other manga projects, including She Is Beautiful, which launched in 2022 and was based on his award-winning plot concept from a Young Jump contest. His diverse portfolio highlights his versatile storytelling abilities, ranging from action-packed shonen spinoffs to intricate corporate dramas.
