The highly anticipated second season of the new Ranma ½ anime adaptation officially premiered on October 4, 2025, bringing more martial arts mayhem and gender-bending hijinks to fans worldwide. Produced by the acclaimed Studio MAPPA, the series is streaming exclusively on Netflix, with new episodes releasing weekly. This marks the continuation of the rebooted classic, which first debuted its initial 12-episode season in October 2024.

The Return of a Beloved Classic: What to Expect from Ranma ½ Season 2

Following a successful first season, which garnered attention for its fresh take on Rumiko Takahashi’s iconic manga, Ranma ½ Season 2 plunges viewers deeper into the chaotic life of Ranma Saotome. The story continues to follow Ranma, a martial artist cursed to transform into a girl with cold water and back into a boy with hot water, as he navigates his engagement to Akane Tendō and confronts a growing roster of eccentric rivals and suitors.

Episode Release Schedule and Streaming Details

New episodes of Ranma ½ Season 2 will be released on Saturdays. Viewers can catch new installments on Netflix, with episodes available with English subtitles. The season is confirmed to run for at least 12 episodes. In Japan, the series also airs on the Nippon Television Network.

The premiere schedule for new episodes across various time zones is as follows:

  • Pacific Daylight Time: 8:55 a.m. PDT
  • Mountain Daylight Time: 9:55 a.m. MDT
  • Central Daylight Time: 10:55 a.m. CDT
  • Eastern Daylight Time: 11:55 a.m. EDT
  • Greenwich Mean Time: 3:55 p.m. GMT
  • Japan Standard Time: 12:55 a.m. JST (Sundays)

Reprising Roles and New Additions to the Cast and Crew

Many of the original Japanese voice cast members have returned for this new adaptation, including Kappei Yamaguchi as male Ranma Saotome, Megumi Hayashibara as female Ranma, and Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendō. Other reprising voices include Rei Sakuma as Shampoo, Minami Takayama as Nabiki Tendō, Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi Tendō, and Kōichi Yamadera as Ryōga Hibiki and the Jusenkyo Guide.

Season 2 also introduces additional voice cast members for fan-favorite characters. Toshihiko Seki reprises his role as Mousse, while Kaori Nazuka joins as Ukyo Kuonji. Other new cast additions include Mayama Ako as Cologne, Kazuhiko Inoue as Happosai, and Akira Ishida as Hikaru Gosunkugi.

The production is helmed by director Kōnosuke Uda at Studio MAPPA, known for its work on popular anime such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan. Kimiko Ueno is in charge of series scripts, and Hiromi Taniguchi handles the character designs. Kaoru Wada returns to compose the music. New theme song performers, Wednesday Campanella and Nishina, provide the opening and ending themes, “Wo Aini” and “Panda Girl,” respectively.

The Legacy of Ranma ½ in Modern Anime

The decision by MAPPA to adapt Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ manga, which ran from 1987 to 1996, follows a trend of modern reboots for classic anime properties, much like the recent Urusei Yatsura adaptation. The original Ranma ½ anime, produced by Studio Deen, ran from 1989 to 1992 and comprised 161 episodes, along with OVAs and films.

The new adaptation aims to provide a “leaner, meaner, and sharply animated” version of the original, resonating with both long-time fans and a new generation of viewers. The series explores themes of martial arts, romantic comedy, and body switching, making it a unique and enduring property in the anime landscape.
