Without conventional fighting skills, magic, or even limbs initially, the protagonist must evolve and grow stronger to survive in a perilous environment filled with monsters and hidden secrets. Seven Seas Entertainment, which publishes the English versions of both the light novel and its manga adaptation by RIO, describes the premise as the hero waking up as a helpless egg surrounded by terrifying, hungry beasts, determined to become the strongest dragon despite their humble beginnings.

The production team for the Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling anime features a mix of experienced creators. Yuta Takamura, known for his work on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, is directing the series. Tatsuhiko Urahata is handling the series composition. The Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling series originated as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in August 2015. It later began print publication as a light novel with illustrations by Naji Yanagida in December 2015 under Earth Star Entertainment, before moving to Square Enix’s SQEX Novel imprint in January 2021. As of June 2022, sixteen volumes of the light novel have been released. The manga adaptation, illustrated by RIO, began serialization in September 2017 on Earth Star Entertainment’s Comic Earth Star website and has eight compiled volumes as of January 2025.
