The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of Nekoko and Naji Yanagida’s fantasy light novel series, Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling (also known as Tensei Shitara Dragon no Tamago Datta: Saikyō Igai Mezasanee or DoraTama), is officially slated for a 2026 premiere. Alongside the release window, a key visual and teaser promotional video have been unveiled, offering fans a first look at the animated world. Key staff members bringing the series to life have also been announced.

Journey from Egg to Apex Predator: The Story of a Dragon Hatchling

The Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling series chronicles the unique isekai journey of a protagonist who, instead of being reborn as a powerful hero, finds themselves as a vulnerable dragon egg in a dangerous new world. Without conventional fighting skills, magic, or even limbs initially, the protagonist must evolve and grow stronger to survive in a perilous environment filled with monsters and hidden secrets. Seven Seas Entertainment, which publishes the English versions of both the light novel and its manga adaptation by RIO, describes the premise as the hero waking up as a helpless egg surrounded by terrifying, hungry beasts, determined to become the strongest dragon despite their humble beginnings.

Key Staff and Voice Cast Details

The production team for the Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling anime features a mix of experienced creators. Yuta Takamura, known for his work on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, is directing the series. Tatsuhiko Urahata is handling the series composition. Hiroyasu Oda is responsible for monster design, a crucial element for a series centered on evolving creatures. The musical score will be composed by Ko Ohtani. The anime is a co-production between GA-CREW and Felix Film.

The main voice cast bringing the characters to life includes:

  • Illusia: Voiced by Shunichi Toki. Toki expressed his enthusiasm for capturing the original work’s charm and highlighting Illusia’s various forms of “growth” and interactions with fascinating characters.
  • Voice of God: Voiced by Ami Koshimizu. Koshimizu mentioned her anticipation for seeing the protagonist’s transformations and the unique monster and plant designs animated.
  • Myria: Voiced by Miku Ito. Ito is eager to see the exciting battle scenes and Illusia’s growth animated, and she aims to portray Myria’s brave, kind-hearted, and sincere nature.

Visuals and Teaser Offer First Glimpses

The newly released key visual for DoraTama depicts the protagonist, Illusia, happily walking through a forest alongside Myria, who offers a warm smile. The teaser promotional video provides initial footage, showcasing Illusia’s evolution from an egg to a baby dragon and glimpses of their daily life. The teaser also features interactions with human characters and various monsters, setting the tone for the fantasy world the anime will explore. These early visuals aim to build anticipation for the 2026 broadcast.

From Web Novel to Anime Sensation

The Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling series originated as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in August 2015. It later began print publication as a light novel with illustrations by Naji Yanagida in December 2015 under Earth Star Entertainment, before moving to Square Enix’s SQEX Novel imprint in January 2021. As of June 2022, sixteen volumes of the light novel have been released. The manga adaptation, illustrated by RIO, began serialization in September 2017 on Earth Star Entertainment’s Comic Earth Star website and has eight compiled volumes as of January 2025. With its established popularity, the anime adaptation is set to bring this unique isekai adventure to a broader audience.
