Fans of the dark fantasy isekai series Re:Monster can rejoice as a second season of the anime adaptation has been officially announced today, September 25, 2025. The announcement comes after the successful broadcast of the first season, which aired from April to June 2024. While a release date and specific production staff for the upcoming season are yet to be confirmed, the news has generated significant excitement among the series’ dedicated fanbase.
The Journey of Rou Continues
The Re:Monster anime chronicles the journey of Tomokui Kanata, a human who is reborn into a fantastical world as a lowly goblin named Rou after an untimely death. Blessed with the unique ability to grow stronger by consuming other creatures, Rou rapidly evolves, using his past memories and new physical prowess to navigate a perilous world of swords and magic. The first season depicted Rou’s swift rise through the goblin hierarchy and his encounters with various monsters and races, showcasing a brutal yet compelling survival story.
Production Details and Returning Cast
The first season of Re:Monster was produced by Studio Deen, with Takayuki Inagaki directing, Hiroshi Yamaguchi handling series composition, Junichi Takaoka designing the characters, and Go Sakabe composing the music. Although the full staff for the second season has not been revealed, several key voice actors are confirmed to reprise their roles. Takuya Satou will return as Aporou, Kenta Hosoda as Minokichi, Ai Kakuma as Kanami, Kana Ueda as Asue, Mai Kanno as The Redhead, and Nene Hieda as Rubilia.
Crunchyroll streamed the first season of the anime worldwide outside of East Asia, including a same-day English dub, and is expected to do the same for the forthcoming season.
Ample Source Material for Further Adaptation
The Re:Monster series originated as a light novel written by Kogitsune Kanekiru and illustrated by Yamaada, which was initially serialized online on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website before being acquired by AlphaPolis. The light novel series concluded with nine main volumes, a side story, and an extra volume.
Furthermore, a sequel light novel series, Re:Monster: Ankoku Tairiku-hen (Re:Monster: The Dark Continent), also written by Kanekiru and illustrated by Naji Yanagida, began publication in July 2018 and is still ongoing.
A manga adaptation, with art by Haruyoshi Kobayakawa, has been serialized online via AlphaPolis’ manga website since March 2014 and has been collected into numerous tankōbon volumes, with the 13th volume set to release soon. The abundance of existing and ongoing source material suggests that the anime has plenty of narrative ground to cover in future seasons. Given that the first season likely covered only a portion of the original light novel, there’s significant story left for adaptation.
What to Expect from Season 2
While specific plot details remain under wraps, the teaser visual accompanying the announcement hints at “new challenges” and the continuation of Rou’s “overwhelming evolutionary growth survival.” Fans can anticipate more intense battles, strategic monster consumption, and further development of Rou’s unique abilities and his growing goblin horde. The series is known for its action-packed sequences and the protagonist’s cunning tactics in a world where only the strongest survive.
As the Re:Monster anime moves into its second season, viewers can look forward to seeing more of Rou’s monstrous appetite for power and his relentless quest for evolution in this brutal fantasy setting. Further announcements regarding the release window and additional production details are eagerly awaited.
