Production Staff and Story Overview
The anime is being directed by Nobuharu Kamanaka (known for Detective Conan) at studio A.C.G.T. Mariko Kunisawa (Ascendance of a Bookworm) is handling the series composition. Character designs are a collaborative effort by Miki Matsumoto, Fumio Matsumoto, Takaaki Fukuyo, and Takafumi Furusawa. Ryo Takahashi (Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest) is composing the music, and Shigeyuki Suga (Orient) is the action director.
The story, described as a “grimdark tale,” centers on Flum Apricot, who was never meant to be a hero. Despite her “Reversal” power and zero stats, she finds herself in a hero’s party. Betrayed by the party’s sage, Jean Inteige, and sold into slavery, Flum discovers a cursed sword, awakening a new power. This sets her on a violent path to reclaim her life, accompanied by Milkit.
The original light novel series by kiki began as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro in January 2018, with Micro Magazine picking it up for print release later that year. A manga adaptation by Sunao Minakata has been running on Micro Magazine’s Comic Ride website since December 2018. Both the light novel and manga are licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.
