Rocket Shokai and Nakashima723’s manga series, Scum of the Brave (Yūsha no Kuzu), is set to receive a TV anime adaptation. LEED Publishing made the announcement on Saturday, March 15, 2025, confirming that the anime will be produced by OLM and will air on NTV and its affiliates.

The anime adaptation of Scum of the Brave will be animated by OLM, a well-known studio in the anime industry. OLM is recognized for its work on popular series such as Pokémon and The Apothecary Diaries.
Manga Origins and Publication
Rocket Shokai launched the story on the Kakuyomu website in February 2016. The manga series began in 2018 and is published on LEED Publishing’s Comic Border service. The seventh volume of the manga is scheduled to ship on March 21.

Story Setting and Synopsis
Scum of the Brave is set in an alternate 21st century where rich mafia members can transform into “Demon Kings” through ether-enhancement surgery. A group of bounty hunters known as “Braves” are tasked with taking them down. The story focuses on Yashiro, who desires a simple life of pizza, beer, and card games. He accepts a job as a tutor for three young Braves for a large sum of money, leading him into unexpected and complex situations.

This series follows a dark fantasy narrative centered on the battle between the Penal Hero Unit and the Demon King’s army.

Rocket Shokai expressed their enthusiasm for the anime adaptation, comparing the staff’s work to a delicious bowl of ramen. Nakashima723 hopes that the anime will introduce the characters to a wider audience.
Reception
The manga adaptation by Nakashima723 has sold over 50,000 copies. It was also nominated for the “Next Manga Award” for two consecutive years.
