Anime Series Overview and Plot
“Scum of the Brave” is an adaptation of the light novel series written by Rocket Shokai and illustrated by Yūya Kusaka. It was initially serialized as a web novel on Kadokawa Corporation’s Kakuyomu website. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Nakashima723, also began serialization in 2018.
The story is set in an alternate 21st century where affluent mafia members can transform into “Demon Kings” through ether-enhancement surgery. To combat these threats, bounty hunters known as “Braves” are called upon. The narrative follows Yashiro, who, seeking a simple life of pizza, beer, and card games, agrees to become a private tutor for three young Braves for a substantial sum. This decision plunges him into a complex world of crime and adventure.
The “Scum of the Brave” TV anime is slated to premiere in January 2026 on Nippon TV and its affiliates.
