The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of Megumi Hatakenaka’s historical fantasy novel series, Shabake, has released a new promotional video, offering fresh details on its cast, opening theme, and confirming an October 2025 debut. The series is set to premiere on Fuji TV’s “Noitamina” programming block.
Expanded Voice Cast Revealed for Key Characters
The latest announcement confirmed additional voice actors joining the Shabake anime’s roster. Koji Okino has been cast as Nikichi, while Taku Yashiro will voice Sasuke. These new additions will star alongside the previously announced Daiki Yamashita, who takes on the lead role of Ichitaro, the sickly young master around whom the story revolves. The characters of Ichitaro, Nikichi, and Sasuke were also featured in a new visual, giving fans a glimpse into the anime’s artistic style and mood.
Bringing Edo-Era Spirits to Life
The Shabake anime is based on a beloved historical fantasy novel series set in the Edo period. The story centers on Ichitaro, the delicate heir to the prominent Nagasakiya shop in Nihonbashi. Due to his frail health, Ichitaro is largely confined to his home, but he is far from alone, surrounded and protected by benevolent spirits such as the inugami Sasuke and the hakutaku Nikichi. The narrative takes a mysterious turn when Ichitaro sneaks out one night, witnessing a murder that subsequently plunges Edo into a series of bizarre killings, which he endeavors to solve with the help of his supernatural companions.
“Inochi no Parade” Announced as Opening Theme Song
The new promotional video also unveiled the anime’s opening theme song, titled “Inochi no Parade” (Parade of Life), performed by Kujira (also known as whaledontsleep). A preview of the energetic track is included in the trailer, offering a taste of the series’ musical direction.
October 2025 Premiere and Production Details
The Shabake TV anime is confirmed to begin airing in October 2025 as part of Fuji TV’s “Noitamina” block. Animation production is being handled by BN Pictures (Bandai Namco Pictures), known for their work on various anime series.
