The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table has revealed five new voice cast members and released its main promotional video, offering fans a deeper look into the deadly challenges awaiting protagonist Yuki. The series, which premiered on January 7, 2026, immerses viewers in a brutal world where survival means mastering lethal games.

New Voices Join the Death Game Arena

Five additional cast members have been announced, bringing more characters to life in the perilous “Ghost House.” Haruka Oribe will lend her voice to Azuma, Rio Tsuchiya joins as Mishiro, and Yume Miyamoto will portray Airi. Natsuko Abe has been cast as Moegi, while veteran voice actress Shizuka Itō takes on the role of Hakushi. These new additions expand the ensemble of characters entangled in the anime’s high-stakes narrative.

A Glimpse into the ‘Scrap Building’ with the Main Promo Video

The newly released main promotional video provides an intense look at the anime’s dark premise and features the ending theme song, “Inori,” performed by Chiai Fujikawa. While not explicitly titled “Scrap Building,” the video showcases the dangerous environments and cunning traps that the characters, particularly the professional death game player Yuki, must navigate to survive. The footage highlights the psychological tension and action sequences inherent to the series, focusing heavily on protagonist Yuki’s journey.

The Deadly Premise: Playing to Survive

SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table is based on the popular light novel series by Yūshi Ukai and illustrated by Nekometal. The story centers on Yuki, a 17-year-old who finds herself in an unfamiliar manor, clad in a maid uniform, alongside five other girls. This manor is known as the “Ghost House,” a place where survival hinges on successfully clearing a series of deadly traps and games, including blowguns, buzz saws, and locked rooms.

However, unlike her companions, Yuki isn’t a hapless victim; playing death games is her profession. She treats these gruesome contests as a job, using her skills to secure prize money and survive to clear 99 games. The anime explores a unique critique of capitalism, presenting a world where participating in death games becomes a viable, albeit twisted, means of earning a living.

Production and Broadcast Details

The anime adaptation is produced by Studio DEEN and directed by Sōta Ueno. Rintarou Ikeda is handling the series composition, with Eri Osada responsible for character designs. The musical score is composed by Junichi Matsumoto.

The series officially premiered on January 7, 2026, on Tokyo MX at 11:00 p.m. JST, with its inaugural episode receiving a special 60-minute runtime. Subsequent episodes will air later in the night at 11:30 p.m. It is also broadcasting on ABC TV and will begin airing on WOWOW on January 13. For international audiences, the anime is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix, ensuring global access to the debut.

The opening theme song is “¬Ersterbend” (pronounced “Not Ersterbend”), performed by LIN from MADKID, while the ending theme, “Inori” (Prayer), is performed and co-written by Chiai Fujikawa. The composition and arrangement for the ending theme were handled by Seima Kondō from Elements Garden.
