Shun Numa’s comedy manga, Super Psychic Policeman Chojo (Chōjun! Chōjō Senpai), is officially being adapted into a TV anime series, slated for release in 2026. This announcement comes despite the manga concluding its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump earlier this year.

From Weekly Shonen Jump to the Small Screen

The news of an anime adaptation for Super Psychic Policeman Chojo has been met with excitement, particularly as the manga recently ended its run in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The series, written and illustrated by Shun Numa, was serialized from February 2024 to June 2025, with eight tankōbon volumes released as of September 2025. Its abrupt conclusion in June 2025, after 64 chapters, led many to believe it was canceled due to low sales.

Despite its truncated serialization, Super Psychic Policeman Chojo garnered a dedicated fanbase and achieved recognition, ranking third in the print category at the Next Manga Awards in 2025, and sixth in 2024. This recent success, coupled with the anime announcement, suggests a resurgence of interest in the series.

The Story of Super Psychic Policeman Chojo

The manga is a buddy-cop comedy set in Chinjuku, a city brimming with talented psychics. The plot follows rookie police officer Nao Ippongi, a 19-year-old judo expert, who is assigned to the West Chinjuku Police Station. Her partner is the eccentric senior police officer Meguru Chojo, a powerful psychic who possesses abilities beyond human comprehension.

An Unconventional Duo in Chinjuku

Meguru Chojo, despite his formidable psychic powers, is known for his lazy and self-centered personality, making him unpopular among his colleagues. He often uses his powers for personal convenience rather than police work. Nao Ippongi, on the other hand, is earnest and determined, often finding herself trying to manage Chojo’s antics while striving to prove herself.

The duo’s dynamic forms the core of the series’ comedic appeal. Together, they navigate the eccentricities of Chinjuku, solving crimes, dealing with unusual townsfolk, and confronting various incidents, often in a whirlwind of comedic situations. The series is praised for its blend of comedy and character building, creating an enjoyable odd-couple pairing.

Production Details and Expectations

The upcoming anime adaptation will be directed by Junichi Yamamoto, known for his visual effects work on Makoto Shinkai’s acclaimed film Your Name. Hayashi Mori is responsible for the series’ writing and scripts, while Masakatsu Sasaki will oversee the character designs. ARVO ANIMATION is handling the animation production.

While a concrete release date and international streaming details are yet to be announced, the anime is anticipated to bring Super Psychic Policeman Chojo‘s unique humor and characters to a wider audience in 2026. The adaptation offers a new opportunity for the series to gain popularity, potentially encouraging binge-reading of the manga’s collected volumes.

Shun Numa is also known for his previous work, Samon the Summoner, which was also serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
