Los Angeles, CA – Anime fans can mark their calendars as Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is set to release the highly anticipated film, “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc,” for digital purchase on December 9, 2025. The acclaimed movie, which continues the narrative of the popular Chainsaw Man anime series, will be available through major digital retail platforms, offering both subbed and dubbed versions for home viewing.

“Reze Arc” Continues Denji’s Perilous Journey

“Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” is a direct sequel to the first season of the Chainsaw Man anime television series, adapting events from the fifth and sixth volumes of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original manga. The film delves deeper into the life of Denji, the titular Chainsaw Man, as he navigates the brutal world of devil hunters.

The movie’s plot sees Denji, now a part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters, encounter a mysterious girl named Reze. Amidst an ongoing war between devils and hunters, a new battle ignites within Denji’s heart as he develops feelings for Reze. This budding romance sets the stage for what promises to be one of Denji’s deadliest battles yet, as he confronts secret enemies and fights for his humanity. The film has been described as a “feel-bad rom-com” that delivers a “compelling and hauntingly beautiful romance”.

Where to Watch the Digital Release

Starting December 9, viewers will be able to purchase or rent “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” on various digital platforms. These include popular services such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google TV, and Vudu – Fandango at Home. The digital release will provide both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English-dubbed version, catering to a wide audience. While the digital release arrives swiftly, a streaming date for platforms like Crunchyroll has not yet been announced, though it is anticipated for early 2026.

Theatrical Success and Critical Acclaim

Produced by MAPPA and directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” first premiered in Japanese theaters on September 19, 2025, where it quickly topped the box office in its opening weekend. It then saw a North American release on October 24, 2025, with early screenings for Crunchyroll members on October 22. The film has been a commercial success, grossing over $177 million worldwide as of November 23, 2025, making it one of the highest-grossing Japanese films of all time.

Critically, the movie has been well-received, earning a 96% “fresh” critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers have lauded its ability to rev up the carnage while maintaining a “perversely sweet emotional core,” rendered in “eye-popping animation”. It has been hailed as one of the best anime movies of 2025. The film also features a notable score by Kensuke Ushio, whose return to the franchise has been praised for enhancing the emotional depth of Denji and Reze’s tragic love story. The movie carries an MPAA rating of R for strong bloody violence/gore and some nudity.
