The echoes of euphonious melodies are set to resonate once more as Sound! Euphonium announces its final movie project. Aptly titled Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie, this cinematic endeavor promises to bring a poignant close to the beloved series. With Part 1 slated for release in Spring 2026, fans worldwide are brimming with anticipation for the concluding chapters of Kumiko Oumae’s journey.

A Decade of Harmony: Celebrating Sound! Euphonium‘s Legacy

Since its debut in April 2015, Sound! Euphonium has captured hearts with its breathtaking animation, captivating music, and inspiring narrative of the Kitauji High School Concert Band’s pursuit of national gold. The series, adapted from Ayano Takeda’s light novel series, has expanded to include three television seasons, five theatrical releases (including spin-offs and special editions), and a dedicated fanbase that spans the globe.

The announcement of Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie coincided with the franchise’s 10th-anniversary celebration, held at the Pacifico Yokohama National Grand Hall in Japan. The event featured a retrospective of the past decade, culminating in the unveiling of the 2026 theatrical release. The announcement was met with resounding cheers and tears from longtime fans, underscoring the series’ profound impact.

The Final Movie: A Two-Part Crescendo

Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie is structured as a two-part film project, with the first installment arriving in Spring 2026. The Japanese title of Part 1, Saishū Gakushō Hibike! Euphonium Zenpen, suggests that the project may even expand to three parts to fully encapsulate the story. This ambitious undertaking aims to provide a comprehensive and satisfying conclusion to Kumiko’s story.

Kyoto Animation Returns to Orchestrate the Finale

Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the anime adaptation, is once again at the helm for Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie. Known for their meticulous attention to detail, expressive character animation, and evocative musical sequences, Kyoto Animation’s involvement ensures that the film will maintain the series’ high standards.

Tatsuya Ishihara, who directed the previous seasons and films, is expected to return, bringing his experienced vision to the project. The production team is committed to delivering a visually and emotionally resonant experience that honors the legacy of Sound! Euphonium.

What to Expect from The Final Movie

While specific plot details are scarce, Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie is expected to delve into the challenges and triumphs of Kumiko and her fellow band members as they navigate their final year of high school. The film will likely explore themes of ambition, perseverance, friendship, and the bittersweet nature of graduation.

Fans can anticipate a blend of familiar and new musical pieces, showcasing the band’s growth and technical prowess. The film will also introduce new characters and storylines, adding fresh dynamics to the existing ensemble.

A Look Back at Kumiko’s Harmonious Journey

Sound! Euphonium follows Kumiko Oumae, a high school student who joins the Kitauji High School Concert Band after a disappointing experience in junior high. Alongside her classmates Hazuki Katou and Sapphire Kawashima, Kumiko rediscovers her passion for music and forms lasting bonds with her fellow band members.

Over the course of the series, Kumiko and the band face numerous challenges, including internal conflicts, demanding practice schedules, and fierce competition from rival schools. With the guidance of their strict but dedicated band director, Taki-sensei, the band members learn to overcome their obstacles and strive for excellence.

Sound! Euphonium is known for its realistic portrayal of high school life, its nuanced character development, and its celebration of the power of music. The series has resonated with audiences of all ages, inspiring viewers to pursue their passions and embrace the value of teamwork.

From Light Novel to Anime Sensation

Sound! Euphonium began as a light novel series written by Ayano Takeda and illustrated by Nikki Asada. The series was published by Takarajimasha from December 2013 to June 2024, comprising a total of 14 volumes. A three-volume manga adaptation by Hami further expanded the series’ reach.

The first season of the anime adaptation, produced by Kyoto Animation, premiered in April 2015, followed by a second season in October 2016. In 2024, the third and final season, Sound! Euphonium 3, aired on NHK Educational TV, chronicling Kumiko’s final year of high school and her role as the band’s captain.

Between the first and second television seasons, two films were released: Sound! Euphonium: Our Promise: A Brand New Day (2019) and Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest Arc (2023). These films provided additional insights into the characters’ lives and explored different aspects of the Sound! Euphonium universe.

Teaser Trailer and Anniversary Celebrations

To commemorate the 10th anniversary, several new products have also been announced:

  • Drama CD (Dec 24, 2025): Titled “10th Anniversary Disc Everyone’s Story,” this CD contains eight unadapted stories from the original novels, set after the third TV season. It includes a special case, recording script, a booklet featuring cast/staff comments, and a set of 10 memorial illustration boards.

  • Event Blu-ray Box (Sep 24, 2025): Features recordings of all three 10th-anniversary live events. The first edition includes a live reading script and a booklet with photos and event reports.

  • Anniversary Album espressivo (Nov 5, 2025): Disc 1 features rearranged BGM from Season 3 and the Ensemble Contest Special. Disc 2 contains six competition pieces from Seasons 1–3. The first edition includes a clear sleeve and illustration cards.

The teaser trailer for Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie was released on June 7, 2025, at the series’ 10th-anniversary event in Kyoto. The trailer features the ending theme song from Season 3, “Neiro no kanata” (“Beyond the Tone”), and offers a glimpse into the emotional journey that awaits Kumiko and her fellow band members.
