Fans of the beloved “Sound! Euphonium” franchise can mark their calendars, as “Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 1” is slated to premiere in Japanese theaters on April 24, 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer and key visual, offering a glimpse into the highly anticipated cinematic conclusion of the series.
The Final Chapter Begins
The “Sound! Euphonium” series, celebrated for its authentic portrayal of high school concert band life and student musicianship, is entering its final arc with a two-part theatrical release. Part 1, officially titled “Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 1” (Saishū Gakushō Hibike! Euphonium Zenpen), will open in 200 theaters across Japan.
What the New Video Reveals
The recently released trailer provides a sneak peek at the film’s animation, which continues to be produced by the renowned Kyoto Animation, the studio behind all previous installments of the franchise. The video also features the ending theme song from Season 3, “Neiro no Kanata” (“Beyond the Tone”), setting an emotional tone for the upcoming movie. Along with the trailer, a new key visual was unveiled, further building anticipation for the film’s release.
Connecting to the “Sound! Euphonium” Legacy
This upcoming movie serves as a “theatrical version” of the third season of the “Sound! Euphonium” TV anime, which premiered in April 2024. The third season focused on protagonist Kumiko Oumae’s third year of high school, as she navigates the challenges of leading the Kitauji High School concert band and deals with the arrival of transfer student and fellow euphonium player, Mayu Kuroe. The anime series, based on Ayano Takeda’s novel series, began in 2015 and has garnered a dedicated global fanbase for its vivid animation and relatable characters.
Previous Installments and the Franchise’s Growth
The “Sound! Euphonium” franchise boasts a rich history, including three television seasons, several compilation films of the first two seasons, the spin-off movie “Liz and the Blue Bird,” the film “Sound! Euphonium: Chikai no Finale” (Our Promise: A Brand New Day), and a theatrical OVA titled “Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest”.
