The highly anticipated third season of the Spy×Family anime has unveiled its first teaser trailer and announced key staff changes, with Yukiko Imai stepping up as the new director. Fans can expect the Forger family’s return in October 2025 as part of the Fall 2025 anime season.
The new trailer provides a glimpse into the upcoming season, hinting at an exploration of Loid Forger’s mysterious past, also known as Agent Twilight.
New Leadership Behind the Forgers’ Missions
Yukiko Imai will take the helm as director for Spy×Family Season 3. Imai is no stranger to the series, having previously served as an episode director and storyboard artist for both Season 1 and Season 2. This marks a change from the first season’s director, Kazuhiro Furuhashi, and Season 2’s Takahiro Harada.
In another significant staff update, Rino Yamazaki, who previously worked on scripts, has been promoted to series composer for the third season. Kazuaki Shimada continues in his role as character designer and chief animation director, having also created a new “super teaser visual” featuring Anya and Bond. The art director, Yuni Yoshida, handled the concept and composition of this visual.
Returning Animation Studios and Cast
Animation for the third season will once again be a collaborative effort between WIT Studio and CloverWorks, the studios responsible for the first two successful seasons and the Spy×Family Code: White film. This continuity promises to maintain the series’ acclaimed visual style and animation quality.
The beloved principal Japanese voice cast is confirmed to reprise their roles for Season 3. This includes:
- Takuya Eguchi as Loid Forger
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Anya Forger
- Saori Hayami as Yor Forger
- Kenichiro Matsuda as Bond Forger/Narrator
Other returning cast members include Hiroyuki Yoshino as Franky Franklin, Yuko Kaida as Sylvia Sherwood, Kazuhiro Yamaji as Henry Henderson, Kensho Ono as Yuri Briar, Natsumi Fujiwara as Damian Desmond, Emiri Kato as Becky Blackbell, and Ayane Sakura as Fiona Frost. The English dub cast, including Alex Organ (Loid), Megan Shipman (Anya), and Natalie Van Sistine (Yor), is also expected to return.
What to Expect in Season 3
Spy×Family Season 3 will continue to adapt Tatsuya Endo’s original manga, which is serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform. The manga’s ongoing arcs provide ample source material for the anime.
While specific plot details for the upcoming season remain under wraps, the new trailer teases a deeper dive into Loid Forger’s past, or Twilight’s backstory. The season is expected to pick up directly from where Season 2 left off. Potential arcs to be covered, based on the manga’s progression, include the “Friendship Schemes Arc” and the “Red Circus Arc.” The “Friendship Schemes Arc” focuses on Yor making an unlikely friend while Anya works to improve her relationship with Damian. The “Red Circus Arc” involves Anya’s school bus being hijacked by a terrorist group during a field trip, forcing her and her classmates to find a solution.
The new season also presents opportunities to delve further into character backstories and explore more personal stakes, such as Yor’s internal conflict regarding her assassin life and Loid’s struggle to balance duty with genuine affection. Anya’s desire to keep her unique family together is also expected to be a central emotional theme.
The Enduring Popularity of Spy×Family
Since its anime debut in April 2022, Spy×Family has quickly become one of the most popular and beloved anime franchises, praised for its engaging story, charming artwork, fluid animation, and its ability to seamlessly blend comedy, slice-of-life moments, and intense action. Both previous seasons have received widespread critical and fan acclaim, as has the theatrical film Spy×Family Code: White, released in late 2023. The manga itself has sold over 34 million copies as of March 2025. The continued success sets high expectations for the upcoming third season.
