The Suikoden franchise, a beloved JRPG series known for its intricate plots and vast cast of characters, is experiencing a massive resurgence with the announcement of multiple new projects across various media. Konami has unveiled plans for a new anime series, a mobile game, a manga adaptation, a stage play, and a concert, signaling a significant investment in the future of the Suikoden universe.

Suikoden: The Anime – Bringing the Dunan Unification War to Life

Fans have long awaited a Suikoden anime adaptation, and Konami is finally delivering with Suikoden: The Anime. This new series will adapt the story of Suikoden II, focusing on the Dunan Unification War. The anime will be the first series directly handled by Konami Animation. Suikoden II is considered by many to be the best entry in the series, its themes exploring justice, corruption, and humanity.

Suikoden STAR LEAP – A Mobile RPG with 108 New Stars

Konami is expanding the Suikoden universe to mobile platforms with Suikoden STAR LEAP. This free-to-play RPG, developed for iOS and Android, will feature a completely new story and an all-new cast of 108 recruitable characters. Suikoden STAR LEAP is set between the events of Suikoden V and the original Suikoden. The game boasts beautiful pixel art graphics, enhancing the series’ traditional art style combined with dynamic sounds to deliver a whole new experience of Suikoden. The gameplay will feature gacha elements and events, while retaining the franchise’s signature combat system.

Aki Shimizu Returns for Suikoden: Star Leap Manga Adaptation

Accompanying the mobile game is a manga adaptation of Suikoden: Star Leap. Aki Shimizu, the manga artist behind the Suikoden III manga, is returning to work on this new project. Shimizu shared her excitement during the Suikoden Live Broadcast on March 3rd, anticipating meeting the new characters.

Stage Play Adaptation to Bring the World of Suikoden to Theatrical Audiences

Details surrounding the Suikoden stage play are currently scarce; however, this venture marks a bold step in broadening the franchise’s reach and introducing the captivating narrative and characters to a live theatrical setting.

Celebrating the Music of Suikoden with Live Concerts

Konami is also celebrating the musical legacy of Suikoden with a series of concerts.

Suikoden Acoustic Live Concert (December 2024)

An Acoustic Live Concert, featuring tracks from the first two Suikoden games, was held in Tokyo in December 2024. The concert took place at the Spiral Hall in Tokyo, Japan, on December 14, 2024.

25th Anniversary Symphonic Concert (April 2021)

In April 2021, the Japan Game Music Orchestra (JAGMO) celebrated the 25th anniversary of the franchise with an online concert. The concert was livestreamed and featured music from across the series’ history.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: A Modern Revival

Adding to the excitement, Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is launching on March 6 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. This remaster will introduce a new generation of players to the classic JRPG series, as well as allow veteran fans to relive the experience with enhanced graphics and updated features.
