This re-edited version of the ongoing television series was announced during a special live broadcast celebrating the seventh anniversary of Key’s original Summer Pockets visual novel.
A New Cinematic Experience for Fans
The upcoming film offers fans a re-edited and consolidated version of the Summer Pockets anime, which first began airing on April 7, 2025. While details on specific new content or changes within the compilation film are yet to be fully disclosed, its release aims to provide a fresh perspective on the emotional narrative already unfolding in the TV series. The announcement also noted that the Summer Pockets television series will commence streaming on Netflix from August 8, although it remains unconfirmed if this streaming will extend beyond Japan.
The Journey to Torishirojima
Summer Pockets is based on the highly acclaimed visual novel by Key, a studio renowned for its deeply emotional and character-driven works such as Kanon, Air, and Clannad. The story centers on Hairi Takahara, a young man who travels to the serene, isolated island of Torishirojima to manage the estate of his recently deceased grandmother. Upon his arrival, Hairi finds himself immersed in a world of quiet nostalgia, endless sea, and encounters with mysterious girls, each with their own unique quests and hidden pasts. As he acclimates to island life, forgotten memories resurface, leading him to discover what he never realized he had lost.
Production and Voice Cast
The TV anime adaptation is brought to life by studio feel., known for their meticulous animation. Tomoki Kobayashi is at the helm as director, with Keiichiro Ochi handling the series composition and Mai Otsuka responsible for character designs. The main voice cast from the visual novel reprises their roles for the anime, with the exception of Kamome Kushima, who is now voiced by Nene Hieda following the retirement of her original voice actress, Tomomi Mineuchi. The anime’s theme songs, “Alkatale” (opening) and “Lasting Moment” (ending), are performed by Konomi Suzuki, who also contributed to the visual novel’s main themes.
The television series is planned to run for two consecutive cours, encompassing a total of 26 episodes, ensuring comprehensive coverage of its narrative. The Summer Pockets franchise originated with the visual novel’s release for PC in June 2018. An expanded version, Summer Pockets Reflection Blue, which introduced new heroines and routes, followed in June 2020. Both versions have since been made available on a variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. The English version of the original game was released for PC via Steam in February 2020, with Reflection Blue also becoming available on Steam with multi-language support in June 2025. Jun Maeda, a prominent figure in Key’s works, is credited with the original concept of the visual novel.
