The official accounts for the Summer Pockets anime have released a brand-new trailer and visual focusing on the character Umi Katō, ahead of the 18th episode’s broadcast in Japan. This marks the 7th promotional video for the series, which is currently being simulcast by Crunchyroll.
The Summer Pockets Anime Adaptation
The Summer Pockets TV anime is an adaptation of Key’s popular visual novel. The series officially premiered on April 7, 2025, and is set to have 26 episodes across two consecutive cours. It airs on various networks including TOKYO MX, BS11, and MBS.
Production and Staff Behind the Series
The anime is directed by Tomoki Kobayashi, known for his work on Remake Our Life! and Seiren. Keiichiro Ochi, who worked on The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, is handling the series composition. Character designs are provided by Mai Otsuka, recognized for her contributions to Tearmoon Empire and The Demon Girl Next Door. The animation production is handled by studio feel.
The original concept for Summer Pockets is credited to Jun Maeda, a prominent figure known for his work on Key visual novels like Kanon, AIR, Clannad, and Angel Beats!. The music for the anime features compositions by Shinji Orito, Tomohiro Takeshita, Donmaru, Jun Maeda, and Ryo Mizutsuki, all of whom also contributed to the original game’s soundtrack.
The Story of Torishirojima Island
The narrative of Summer Pockets centers on Hairi Takahara, a young man who travels to the secluded, peaceful island of Torishirojima in the Seto Inland Sea. He uses the recent death of his grandmother as a reason to visit and manage her estate sale, seeking an escape from an unpleasant incident in his urban life. On the island, he encounters several mysterious girls, including Shiroha Naruse, Ao Sorakado, Kamome Kushima, and Tsumugi Wenders, each with their own unique stories and quests. As Hairi settles into island life, forgotten memories begin to resurface.
The Character of Umi Katō
Umi Katō is a significant character in the Summer Pockets story. In the original visual novel, Hairi Takahara lives with Umi under the pseudonym “Umi Katō.” Her voice is provided by Aimi Tanaka in the anime adaptation. The newly released 7th video and visual specifically highlight Umi, suggesting an upcoming focus on her character arc within the anime.
Origin and Expansion of Summer Pockets
The Summer Pockets visual novel was first released in Japan for PC in June 2018. It later saw releases on iOS and Android devices, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. An enhanced version, Summer Pockets Reflection Blue, which includes new heroines and routes, was released in June 2020. This expanded version further introduced a dedicated route for Umi Katō, among others.
In addition to the anime, the Summer Pockets franchise is expanding with a spin-off manga. Illustrated by original game artist Yuunon Nagayama, the manga began serialization in the April 2025 issue of Dengeki Moeoh and is also available on Kadokawa’s Kadokomi website.
