The popular manga series “Kill Blue” by Tadatoshi Fujimaki, renowned for “Kuroko’s Basketball,” is set to receive a novel adaptation titled “Kill Ao Secret Report” (Kiru Ao Himitsu Hōkoku), scheduled to ship on December 4. This news follows the conclusion of the manga’s serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in September 2025 and an announced anime television series adaptation slated for 2026.

Delving into the World of “Kill Blue”

“Kill Blue” is an action-comedy series that captivated readers with its unique premise and engaging characters. The story centers on Juzo Ogami, a formidable 40-year-old hitman working for the Z.O.O. assassin syndicate. His life takes an unexpected turn when, during a mission involving genetic manipulation company Mitsuoka Pharmaceuticals, he is stung by a genetically modified wasp. This incident regresses his age to that of a 12-year-old boy.

The Assassin’s New Assignment: Middle School

Unable to continue his hitman duties in his juvenile state, Ogami is given a new, unconventional assignment by the head of Z.O.O.: to attend a middle school that the head’s daughter plans to apply to. His mission is to assess its safety, all while the organization works on an antidote to restore his original age. Surprisingly, Ogami, who had no formal education beyond elementary school, finds himself enjoying middle school life, balancing his unexpected role as a student with his lethal assassin skills. He also becomes entangled with Noren Mitsuoka, the heiress of Mitsuoka Pharmaceuticals, who might hold the key to his reversion.

The Creative Force Behind “Kill Blue”

Tadatoshi Fujimaki is a well-known Japanese manga artist, widely recognized for his successful sports manga “Kuroko’s Basketball,” which was also serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump. His previous works have inspired multiple anime adaptations, films, and even stage plays, showcasing his talent for creating compelling narratives and memorable characters. “Kill Blue” concluded its serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump from April 2023 to September 2025, with its chapters collected into eleven tankōbon volumes as of September 2025. Viz Media has been publishing the series in English, both digitally and in print.

Anticipation for the Anime Adaptation

An anime television series adaptation of “Kill Blue” was announced on September 1, 2025, coinciding with the manga’s final chapter. Produced by Cue and directed by Hiro Kaburagi, with character designs by Miho Daidōji, the anime is slated to premiere in 2026. The announcement of the novel further expands the “Kill Blue” universe, offering fans another way to engage with Juzo Ogami’s unique journey.
