Fans of the fantasy series “The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows” can rejoice as a second season for the anime adaptation has been officially announced. The news was revealed today at GA Fes 2026, confirming the continuation of Zenos’s journey as a powerful, albeit unlicensed, healer in the shadowy parts of the world.
The Announcement and Key Details
The highly anticipated second season was confirmed during the GA Fes 2026 event. While specific details regarding the broadcast date are yet to be announced, the official confirmation signals that production is moving forward.
Studio Macaria, which was responsible for the animation production of the first season, brought the unique world and its characters to life under the direction of Jo Yoshizaki. While no official staff or cast confirmations for Season 2 have been made, it is generally expected that key personnel and the main voice cast will reprise their roles. The first season featured Shogo Sakata as Zenos, Yoko Hikasa as Carmilla, Miharu Hanai as Lily, Sayaka Kikuchi as Loewe, and Mashiro Hitaka as Lynga.
An announcement video and a teaser visual were also released to mark the occasion.
The Story of Zenos, the Dark Healer
“The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows” (Japanese: Isshun de Chiryou shiteita no ni Yakudatazu to Tsuihousareta Tensai Chiyushi, Yami Healer to shite Tanoshiku Ikiru) follows the tale of Zenos, a self-taught genius healer. After being deemed “useless” and unceremoniously banished from his adventurer party, Zenos returns to the slums where he grew up.
With no major life goals, he establishes a back-alley doctor’s office. Unbeknownst to many, his healing magic is far beyond the norm, quickly making him a pivotal figure in the slums. His exceptional abilities attract the attention of various demi-human gangs, each vying for his services, as having Zenos would make their faction virtually unstoppable. The narrative often explores Zenos’s interactions with these distinct leaders and his earnest desire to help those cast aside by society, all while navigating the complexities of his newfound “shadow” life.
Source Material: Light Novels and Manga
The anime series is based on the light novel series penned by Sakaku Hishikawa and illustrated by Daburyu. The series originally began its serialization online on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in November 2020, before being acquired and published in print by SB Creative in October 2021. As of March 2025, eight volumes of the light novel have been released.
The first anime season reportedly adapted the first two to three volumes of the light novel, leaving ample source material for future animated adaptations. Beyond the light novels, the franchise also includes a manga adaptation illustrated by Ten Jūnoichi, which began in January 2022, and a webtoon adaptation, announced alongside the anime in March 2024. Both the novel and manga versions are licensed in English by J-Novel Club.
Anticipation for Season 2
The conclusion of the first season left several plot points open, including mysteries surrounding an underground guild member and the aftermath of the Royal Hospital arc. The announcement of a second season suggests these storylines will be further explored, offering fans more of Zenos’s unique healing adventures and his growing influence in the world. The series has garnered a dedicated fanbase, particularly in Japan, where it performed strongly across various streaming platforms.
