The highly anticipated anime adaptation of “The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter” (Isekai no Sata wa Shachiku Shidai) is officially set to premiere in January 2026, with a new teaser trailer, visual, and details on its cast and staff unveiled today. The series, a popular isekai boys’ love light novel and manga, focuses on a workaholic accountant transported to a fantasy world.

Anime Adaptation Details Emerge

The anime adaptation of “The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter” was initially announced on November 1, 2024, coinciding with the release of the manga’s sixth tankobon volume. This marks a significant step for the series, which has garnered over 1.4 million copies in circulation across its light novel and manga formats.

Core Cast Members Announced

The main cast bringing the beloved characters to life has been revealed:

  • Seiichiro Kondo will be voiced by Kento Ito. Seiichiro is a 29-year-old salaryman and accountant from Japan who finds himself transported to another world. Yen Press describes his initial motivation in this new world as simply seeking a job.
  • Aresh Indolark will be voiced by Tomoaki Maeno. Aresh is described as a handsome and doting Commander who looks after Seiichiro. He is also known as the “Ice Nobleman” whom Seiichiro aims to “melt the heart of.”
  • Norbert will be voiced by Seiichiro Yamashita.
  • Kamil will be voiced by Hiroki Tochi.

The Story: A Workaholic in a Fantasy World

The premise of “The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter” centers on Seiichirou Kondou, a dedicated Japanese salaryman who suddenly finds himself in a fantasy world after a “Saint-Summoning Ritual.” Despite his new surroundings, Seiichirou’s workaholic tendencies persist. His new life as an accountant in the Romany Kingdom’s Accounting Department begins when he seeks employment.

The narrative explores his relationship with Commander Aresh, a knight captain who aims to curb Seiichiro’s unhealthy work habits. The story delves into Seiichiro’s journey of realizing there might be more to life than just his job, as he navigates his new responsibilities and a deepening connection with Aresh. This isekai boys’ love series presents a unique dynamic between a native fantasy world nobleman and an overburdened workaholic from another world.

Production and Source Material

The anime is based on the light novel series written by Yatsuki Wakatsu and illustrated by Kikka Ohashi. The light novels have three volumes as of 2021. A manga adaptation, drawn by Kazuki Irodori, began serialization in March 2020 and has six volumes as of November 2024. Both the light novel and manga are published by KADOKAWA and are available in English through Yen Press. While the specific anime studio handling the production has not been announced, the staff includes individuals who worked on “Sasaki and Miyano.”
